Maybe if battles were fought over a period of time, the archers would get to attack at the beginning of the battle twice, as if they were firing into an oncoming army.

Their stats already reflect that.

In another game like this I played, you would get a "battle report" saying when each side fired and how much damage they did. That is what I am talking about. Also, see HM's "non instantaneous battles (http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/noninstantaneous-battles_topic1066.html)."

Yes, I've read it, but as I said, Archer stats in this current version of battle reflects the attacking from affair. Technically.

Really? Is it incorporated into their attack or is it a separate bonus?

Well, that's not exactly an attack bonus, but I guess it makes sense. I'm saying if non-instantaneous battles were ever to happen, then archers should get one or two shots off before the actual fighting happens. This is different than standing at the back of an army, which, I agree is reflected in their defense stats.

well i think the archers should attack from 1 or 2 aquars behind like gods destroyer said and messangers should give more orders and why do they need to be used 1 time i dont get it.

Also, everyone except archers has poor defense against archers, specifically because archers get to attack first (from a distance).
This is why archers are the best troops in the game - best relative attack and defense, except maybe against cav on flat.

if archers were to fire from another square, thats saying that archers could fire arrows miles or km or whatever unit the squares are in, when really, archers only fire a couple hundred feet/meters.
