Since illy is a game of war, I thought it would be nice to post "War Game" of friendly contest ideas here.

Title: Clear the square.
Type: 1v1 -- Alliance vs. Alliance
Description: One person or alliance lands troops on a square, and the other person or alliance has to try and clear it.
Prize: Optional

Title: Take the town.
Type: 1v1 -- Alliance vs. Alliance
Description: Two people choose one of their towns, and then they try to be the first to raze/capture the other player's town. -- Two alliances choose a town belonging to them. Then both alliances try to raze/capture the other alliance's town.
Prize: The captured town. Anything else is optional.

Title: Going Hunting.
Type: Alliance wide
Description: Leader or person putting contest together goes and takes the attack score (not rank) of everyone on the alliance. Then the contest begins, after a certain date (predetermined). The person who gained the most score wins.
Prize: Encouraged.

Feel free to post other ideas below, just try to use the same layout I used above.   <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" align="middle" />

This is an interesting idea. I'll need to dwell on it for the future.
Thanks Arctic for these ideas.

Title:  War of the Walls
Type:  1 v 1 -- Alliance vs. Alliance
Description:  Just like normal war - except instead of razing cities, you only try to raze walls.  I believe ~NS~ had an event like this a while ago.

eCrow did the fake siege challenge with Dark Blight. Can't remember the site offhand.

Title: Siege Practice
Type: 1v1 (alliance), could support more
Description: The alliances send engine-less sieges to enemy cities. These armies are capped at speed 7 or 8. Once the 12 hour setup is complete, each siege on a city begins scoring points, per hour. Points are a sliding scale, with bigger cities worth more. At 60 or 72 hours total of a continuous siege, a raze is declared, resulting in a final relatively large number of points. Diplomats are restricted to assassins and scouts.

This system was great fun, but it resulted in excessive book keeping for the accounting team. It's also a headache to police whether everyone is limiting their fake sieges to the maximum speed. I have the impression that a restricted version of Artefore's system might be a lot less monitoring. But wouldn't the sieges be over almost immediately, if the participants used enough battering rams?

Battering rams can miss, just like catapults.

Yes, they can miss. But if you have 30 rams firing in the first hour, at 15-25%, that level 20 wall isn't going to last very long. Maybe 3-5 hours, which is extremely short for a siege.

When NS and TVM had their War of Walls (the idea was Skint Jagblade's, BTW) there were lots of cities involved. We limited the participating armies to those originating from walled cities and once the walls fell the city was out of the war for the duration. Walls could not be rebuilt until the city was counted out. There was a lot of "honor system" involved but very little paperwork and lots and lots of fun.

By the way, being warmongers, we did not put any limits on diplo attacks, magik attacks or military attacks. The only limits were no catapults. That made it quite interesting indeed.

Best wargame (or tournament for that matter) I ever took part in.
