Just a little thing to add:

There are easy ways to lose our units for nothing, like sending them to the HoC when it is beating (they then disappear, do not serve any purpose and are wasted) or sending very large groups to the temples. It is frustrating.
However I've also witnessed that, should one send small groups (i. e. of about 10 diplos) to the temples when it's beating, he/she could rather easily get more tentacle than he/she needs. Drop rate looks to be about 1/15 (group-wise) or so. Not tremendously high.

I've not been able to figure this out when the Heart was still beating and that's why I still feel a bit frustrated too. But if the rules do not change next time we'll be able to fill our storehouses with tentacular appendage. If we still need it ;)

My own conclusions:

Once the Heart is beating, when you send one unit (be it military or diplomatic) to a corrupted temple, the Heart sends you back one corrupted unit. Whatever the original unit type, the corrupted orc/elf/human/dwarf unit seems to remain the same (race-dependent only stats).
Conversion is 1-to-1 : 897 units sent to a temple, 897 returned to your city.
Units sent directly the the Heart are just lost.

However, it does not seem that large groups yield a substantially higher probability of dropping a tentacle. But it has been seen that groups as small as 6 corrupted units can drop tentacles.
Thus it appears much more effective to divide large groups into smaller ones. I don't know what size they should be to maximise the probability (1, 6, 10, 25, ... ?), but it is clearly the way to go.
If you just send a very large group you know it'll be turned in a very large group of undead that will clash once with your troops and kill many, with a low probability of gaining anything. If you send the same number in much smaller groups you won't have much less casualties, but you'll have a much higer chance to get tentacles (possibly several) and thus to make it worth it.

The tentacle drop rate is very low.
Just one more thing to add to this stupid mystery.
1. Take months to activate the heart
2. When you finally get it to beat, many ppl can't get to the altars in time b4 it stops beating again.
3. Even if you do get to the altar in time, there is no garanteee that a tentacle is going to drop.

My POV is that, if the tentacles are consumed in the second part of the quest (ie, if ppl cant "loan" the tentacles so the next person can advance in the quest), this mystery is completely absurd...

Is Audrey working properly?

I sent 2k Troops to the HofC whilst it was beating, they were completely destroyed but did not add to the spread of the 'corrupted forests' as it was already at its maximum.

I sent 1k and 1.1k diplos to the places of high sacrifice whilst the HofC was beating. This resulted in corrupted elves being sent back (in equal numbers).

However, most disappointingly, when the first 1k wave of corrupted elves hit my city and a few hours later 1.1k corrupted elves also hit, neither dropped any tentacles at all whatsoever.

What is the meaning of this?

Anyone able to provide any insight as to why no tentacles were dropped?

Is the HofC working properly?

What are other player's experience in the latest HofC experience?

Anyone have a reliable way of working out what to send to the places of high sacrifice in order to maximize dropped tentacles?

No, it's a mystery. Though, the tentacles don't do anything at the moment =D

The fortune teller told us we need tentacles as step 1 of the mystery to get the racial gear (such as elven bow) discovery. I am not sure if anyone has gotten to step 2 yet, but I am sure they wil this month if they haven't already since people will have tentacles.

Also, to a previous questions, cotters/caravans etc. don't work on Audrey, they just come back normal.

No, it's a mystery. Though, the tentacles don't do anything at the moment, so it's hard to say whether it's currently worth it. But given how long it takes to get it up and beating again, they would have to make it used for something extremely powerful, so perhaps their could be and 'endgame' aspect to it once they get used for something. Maybe we'll be able to make an extremely powerful item or unit from it. =D

The last time Audrey started beating, I sent caravans. They returned covered in fungus just like troops/diplos.

I have seen a lot of posts from people sending armies and diplos but did anybody try to send caravans (maybe loaded with goods and gold) or harvesters?
