To clarify, Butler "highlights" players by setting background colors.  Text normally remains black, though GMs, MODs, and System still get their names in special text colors.  Aside from that, Butler uses a slightly larger font, solid backgrounds, better visual layout, etc. and generally focuses on good readability.  In fact, I'd go so far to say that for now, chat is Butler's killer feature.

At some point, I'll see about improving the preview link so people can see what chat actually looks like and interact with the chat settings without installing it.

I was referring to Alliance chat not Global I realize GM's (devs) want their replies to stand out which could be accomplished by using a set color only available to devs.  Color options can be set from a picking list and that color could simply be removed from user controls or tagged in a way that only makes it accessible to the devs.

The bigger issue is  the background colors with everything in a monocromatic color scheme, in this case all shades of brown including the text in alliance chat. things tend to blur together and it can make it very difficult to see.

If players had the option to change their background setting (many forums and other chat sites) like you can on other sites it makes the game more user friendly and comfortable to play. After all no player who is made uncomfortable is going to stay with a game for long if it is actually causing physical discomfort to view the screens (my personal issue).

I know you can use a tool HM "HonoredMule" made called Butler, that allows you to highlight different players with different colors etc

though i would like the idea to be put onto illyriad, not everyone wants to download programs to have diff text color.

I believe the Devs  have not done it because they want to be noticed as Devs and such, but seriously, they can keep the blue and green of developers and moderators.  They even have a GM or MoD in front of their names, easy enough to tell they;re somebody other then players.

i like this idea.

Patience is a virtue, resource giving is a sin

I have not seen these suggestions so far so here goes:

  1. User defined background color ( ability to adjust screen background colors in your account profile)
  2. User defined text color (ability to set text color)

I feel both of thes would be useful to players who have vision issues... often my eyes bother me and the yellowish background seems to make them feel worse if I am trying to read anything for more that 5 minutes.

Text color can be a similar issue and it might be useful to players if they can color code text within their alliance chat to track the conversation ( I often find myself scrolling back to look for a reply from someone i asked a question because text scrolls by so quickly). If we had the ability to color code say your alliance leaders so they stand out, it would help new players see replies or orders given.
