I never said I even wanted a tournament. If you look at the tournament thread you will see two things. 1: I never posted and 2: Many other people have. From this you can gather that I don't particularly care for tournaments, but many others do. If you read my post again you will see that I acknowledged the fact that it is more work, but the idea was it is a small change if they felt like doing it that wouldn't affect any other systems. Lastly, if you want a game that the designers do not accept input or suggestions from the players, then I'm afraid it is you that is not playing the right game.

The idea was it would be started in the forums, but better managed with a dedicated page to list some important stuff in-game.

Given that there's large game updates on the way then I agree with SC.
It seems silly to start spending time creating minutia like this when it
will most likely all have to get changed as soon as any big update is
implemented... from the impression I get it seems the amount of testing and
bug squashing required for each new update increases exponentially. I.E. the more detail you have already, then the longer it takes it is to introduce new things.
So I say we enjoy the tourney just the way it is... and it sure seems like there will be some fun to be had as a spectator or a participant. Infact I have respect for SC and the team for simply acknowledging the tournament and doing what they have done already to make it official.

The idea to have something in the barracks seems...to easy for anyone to start a tournament, there would have to be some control on it or we would have a lot of tournaments. otherwise it doesn't seem like a bad addition for the tournaments.

I know this is work that you don't need but there are a few ideas that you could employ without
compromising your position, rather than having to manually do this each tournament and to keep the
tournaments player run:
Add a tab in the consulate or barracks for tournaments. Anyone can
create a tournament in their own city. Obviously player (ref) needs to post it
in the forums for publicity. Add an option to post to herald or not
(for public or private tournaments).
Ref can set start time, number of participants and number of flags,
along with random location of flags within a radius of a point or
specifically setting flag locations. Flags would be used as they are
now, just for location indicators and for herald to show who is
currently holding point.
Players click on a direct link posted in the forum, or go to players
city for an added option, 'Enter tournament'. Players can forefit the
tournament at any time. Penalties are ref enforced.
At the start of the tournament the system could send a notice to all entrants for simplicity.
Any prizes would be donated through the same page and held in escrow
until the winner is selected by the player. The winnings would be kept
separate from the towns res, like putting them up for trade does, but
does not make them immune to theft.
Winner has to be selected by ref, ie not automatic once
conditions are met and all rules would obviously still be enforced by
ref and other players. Winnings would be sent by King Sigurd's caravans (due to the
obscene prize offering in the current tournament), possibly escorted by
mammoths.
This feature could make tournaments more manageable. The page would list
the start time, current entrants, the prize pool, and the current state
of play; similar to the herald but with a few more bits of info. Nothing else would be managed, nor any rules enforced by the system. This would simply put tournaments in a more ordered style, and have all the tournament facts in one place. If something screws up, a player screwed it up, and it will be up to anyone involved to sort it out.
EDIT: Oh, and add a little box for ref to outline the rules and penalties.
