I have gotten alot of IGMs asking what is NF. NF is the short name for neurofibromatosis. Neurofibromatoses distinct disorders that cause tumors to grow in the nervous system. Scientists have classified the disorders as neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1, also called von Recklinghaus disease),neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), and a type that was once considered to be a variation of NF2 but is now called schwannomatosis. NF1 is the most common neurological disorder caused by a single gene; occurring in one in every 3,000 children born.
An estimated 100,000 Americans have a neurofibromatosis disorder, which occurs in both sexes and in all races and ethnic groups. The Neurofibromatoses are genetically-determined disorders which affect more than 2 million people worldwide; this makes NF more prevalent than cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and Huntington's Disease combined. Kodabear the LORD of the magic bears has been Diagnosed with neurofibromatosis but doesnt know which type. For more info on NF you can look here http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/neurofibromatosis-fact-sheet_topic5921.html or http://www.ctf.org/

‘Twas the night before Christmas And all thru the Foundation CTF staff were preparing For the holiday vacation Year-end cards had been sent Yummy sweets were consumed On a year that had bloomed From Synodos to Registry And Biobank to NFPC The Science team was excited To share results for all to see Was counting the dollars From a great fundraising year Go NF Walk! Go NF Endurance! Go Community Relations! Cheers to Racing for Research! And all the Gala celebrations! Oh and that hardworking Operations team That makes the magic happen Administration, Finance, HR, IT Gift Processing, where would we be, without ‘em? And then there’s those folks Over at marketing and communications ‘Shine a Light on NF’ and ‘I Know A Fighter’ Were just two of their delightful creations We raise a glass today as well To those who brave the cold in style To our friends over at Cupid’s Who fight NF by running a mile (-ish) And to the members of the CTF Board, Who lead with dedication and wisdom Their battle is our cause And we’re proud to be with them They say every penny counts To this we agree wholeheartedly To our donors we say thank you And keep your trust avowedly We tip our hat to fellow NF orgs Spread all across the land Hand in hand, in every way we can And to our volunteers who are always there In NF clinics and at events Advocating for NF everywhere they go And sparing no expense Living with NF and their families And in memory of those who’ve left too soon So that we find a cure more rapidly This is the NF community So wonderful and so brave On Christmas Eve, be sure to look to the sky At Santa and his reindeer, and wave his face full of joy and glee “Ho, ho, ho, dear friends of CTF, Happy Holidays to all... and let’s End NF, immediately!” Reflections were made The Development staff Leading all to holler Together we fight NF We do all this for those As Santa shouts back, Edited by kodabear - 24 Dec 2015 at 23:53 |
