I believe that I stated that a siege might be contemplated at some point in the context of saying out that there were multiple other solutions that could be pursued and listing some of them, including making a reasonable division of sovereignty.

In fact, it seems that I did pretty much what you say you would have done, with the exception that I did it publicly, thus subjecting myself to much derision, second-guessing and aspersions on my character and general game approach.  Not to worry.  I'm a big girl.  I can handle it.

Here's the totality of my post in which I made reference to siege, in case people have forgotten it.

This situation has been going on for a couple of weeks.  While a siege is something that could be contemplated at some point, if the other party never responds to multiple attempts to contact them, that would not be our preference.  Others might siege first and ask questions later, but this is not our way.

I see the issue of proximity of settlement of a city as being different than a land claim.  Perhaps others disagree.  The distinction in my mind is this:  HUGcr makes no attempt to claim land for possible future city settlement, nor to prevent others from settling in areas near HUGcr cities, unless such settlements pose a problem for the growth of already existing cities.  That is potentially the case here.  (Note:  HUGcr also makes a practice of posting a marker army on locations to which a settler or Exodusing city is headed; this marker could be regarded as a claim of sorts, although I see it more as a "heads up, something is happening here" communication.)

HUGcr has not yet even made a demand that the city be moved.  In other similar situations it has been possible to negotiate a settlement with regard to future sovereignty claims that allowed both cities to stay in their positions.  I don't know whether that will be possible here.  I do know that it won't be possible unless we talk to each other.

It could of course be argued that making a territorial claim and not allowing any settlement of other than one's own alliance would prevent all such conflicts.  This is possibly true.  However, my personal belief is that the ability of a diversity of players from multiple alliances to settle in reasonable proximity to each other creates more enjoyment for all and is worth the hassle of occasional situations such as this one.

If I've caused offence I apologise. Not my intention.

My intention was actually to highlight an issue with the title of the thread. Most players cannot be expected to know what the inner circle consider "inappropriate". Inappropriate is an opinion, not a clear category. I would share the opinion that people should give one and other breathing space, but that's because I understand the implications of the rules, in a way that most players (especially smaller players) won't.

Having said that, the thread did seem to me to involve an amount of veiled growling. Like I said, if I misread, then I'm very happy to be wrong in my interpretation.

"A boy is building sandcastles on a beach. You go and kick down his castle. You could say that it only reflects how you play with sandcastles. Others may think it reflects who you are." - Ander.

With regard to the idea that the title (and my posts) reflect my opinion, well, yeah.  They are my opinions.  (Or Ryelle's opinions, as it were.)  I thought the town was inappropriately close.  If it was anything other than a matter of opinion, say it was somehow illegal under game rules, I would have filed a petition, not made a forum post.

I assure you, were I growling, it would be unambiguous.  And my bite is worse than my bark.  Wink

It seems your intent with this post was to open up communication with TOR regarding what we will call "the event."

It would also seems you were successful with your intent. Maybe it will be for the best to close this thread?

Although I would point out that a better way to contact someone through the forums is by private message, because the forum likes to shout in your face that you have mail. Beyond that- close away.

Seems to be a very dramatic event. One of TORs members (being on a trip) chooses a bad location for a new town on an iphone in the sun and misses a close town nearby. I (being TORs Consul at that stage) am on a trip as well and do not have time to play Illy. Things get accidentally delayed (also because we are in the middle of elections). Everything indeed is resolved.

Please close this thread.
