Topic: Assassins.. Posted: 17 Jun 2010 at 15:39 |

I was thinking.. (dangerous I know)
However, it would add a new element to the game if we could 'choose' a specific target for assassins. Instead of just killing commanders (which is great) but that we could also choose to kill specific diplomatic units as well, such as thieves, other assassins, and saboteurs.
Depending on how complex you would wish to make it, you might even put into place (like the commanders) experience points for successful missions. That one is more your playground. But the initial paragraph is my thoughts.
The Alliance - Dwarven Lords - ROCK! Belargyle

I agree, a pain that your assassins dont gain EP either...but would be good if you could target other diplo units....

apperently this is allowed and intended, but I don't like that fact that if you see an incoming diplomatic mission you can just send your commanders out and if its an assassin then there are no commanders in the ciy to be killed. Isn't the idea of an assassin that you don't see it coming?

He is not saying just for army commanders, he is saying before you send out your guys you give them a target, example go kill the commanders, go kill the trackers...go kill the saboteurs....

Exactly.. Not to mention the fact that the assassin is seen inbound though it is true you don't know what it is yet. But the fact you can see them, I never really understood that part Don't get me wrong, I like seeing what is coming at me, but it would be nice to have an aspect that could potentially mask them, while still reporting the threat of a potential assassin being inbound.
Maybe bring into play a new research item, say.. Disguises, in the diplomatic section.. which would make the assassin unitl look like any other "passerby" Diplomatic unit and not an aggrssive one. This will still allow everyone the slim opportunity to move out any military or diplimomatic units while watching inbound units.
Just some thoughts

The assassin does look like any other diplo unit on the map...thats because he is a diplo unit..all someone would know is its an inbound diplo..not what type

No belargyle means it'd be nice to have the option to make hostile diplomatic units look like neutral diplomatic units. I think it'd be cool if there was a percentage chace of the assassin units showing up as hostile depending on consulate level. I.e. rumors may have reached the city etc

I think it's perfectly fair for an active player who's online and playing attention to have the opportunity to react in a manner that defends against the possible outcomes, especially since one must still guess what those outcomes might be or react to several at once.
An equally alert attacker can use both good timing and ruses to make those reactions work in his favor as well.

100% support the idea of assassinating non-commander units - especially since there is no other way to get rid of defending diplos.
(obviously you'd want to assassinate their assassins first :P. Yay for shadow wars!)
