What an excellent idea Roweena. Adding gathering choices to this game would benefit everyone as some "countries* in Broken Lands have almost no resources to gather and few animals to hunt. Mayhaps spinning new quests and discoveries for the added spirits. It takes roughly 4k grapes to make wine which sells for around 1.5 million in market. I am sure the DEVs could make it equally lucrative.

Just sayin', laughing/partying is a lot more fun than war... (and those that don't want to war won't be bored)
Can't say I look forward to a war.. but a good laugh...yeah. |

Another idea of how to harvest the Spirits in Illyriad and how to Use them.
Remember, we are all in an "Imaginary World" harvesting "Imaginary items" killing "Imaginary foes" doing "Imaginary trade" and talking in an "Imaginary Forum" so drinking "Imaginary Spirits" fits! The basic items could be distributed randomly based on Common and Rare Spirit Ingredients: By all means, check out any "Real" bartenders guide and you will see these are the actual ingredients used to make the various beverages. If the Devs like the idea, they could even make more items and perhaps even change the Beer and Wine to basic beer (light beer), rare beer (dark beer) basic wine (two-buck-chuck) and rare wine (red or white). You could even make premium wines (Eiswein, Trockenbeerenauslese) or champagnes and bubbly wines (Spumante, Dom Perignon). These premium wines and champagnes could take rare wine and then additional "magic" or "herbs" to produce. Common: Sugar Cane: 3000-4000 units would produce one barrel of Rum. Location for the sugar cane could be the Pirate Isles and surround Pirate habitats such as in "Real world" West Indies & Caribbean. Corn: 3000-4000 units would produce one barrel of Whiskey. Locations for the corn could be plains which are located in many areas of Illyriad such as in "Real world" Canada or America. Potato: 3000-4000 units would produce one barrel of Vodka. Locations for Potato could be in northern climates, similar to the "Real world" locations like Russia, Finland, Iceland. Rare items: Juniper Berry: 1000-2000 units would produce one barrel of Gin. Locations for the Juniper Berry could be marshlands and more hidden - away locations such as in "Real world" Holland and France. Barley: 1000-2000 units would produce one barrel of Scotch. Locations for Barley could be in lightly forested areas scattered in different places such as in "Real world" Scotland. Agave Plant: 1000-2000 units would produce one barrel of Tequila. The Agave plant could be in dry dessert areas, like in the "Real world" of Mexico and middle America. HOW TO USE the Spirits (It came to my Imaginary character during its Imaginary sleep) Whenever harvesters come to a spot and someone is there, the system automatically BUMPS them. How about if we used the SPIRITS to change things up, make things more interesting: Option 1 - default, continue to "bump" another player and possibly piss them off like currently Option 2 - Wait In Line : for usage of 1 Rare Spirit or 2 basic Spirits (which can be automatically set for all harvesters - Caravans, Cotters, Skinners, Miners, Herbalists) the harvester would "Wait-In-Line" and stay in a holding pattern around the plot until the other harvester finished. Once the other person finished harvesting, the Next-in-line would then go onto the spot and be able to harvest whatever is left on the spot. If all the resources are taken, well then they just go home. Option 3 - Share The Wealth proportionally: for usage of 2 Rare Spirits or 4 basic Spirits (which could be automatically set for all harvester) the arriving party would do just that - have a party with the existing harvesters. Because now there are twice as many people harvesting and partying it up, they collect the items twice as fast and since they were consuming great quantities of spirits, they are more than happy to share (split the harvest) evenly. If it there is only one item (like a fur, pelt, exoskeleton, tooth, mineral, herb, grape, spirit ingredient, the system could "create" extra items so each group would have some of the spoils of war and the rewards of harvesting. Option 4 - Share The Wealth dis-proportionate shares: If more spirits are spent or larger concentrations from Basic Spirits to Rare spirits (say 4 Rare Spirits or 8 rare Spirits) then the incoming party could have more of the spoils (75%) If it there is only one item (like a fur, pelt, exoskeleton, tooth, mineral, herb, grape, spirit ingredient, the system could "create" extra items so each group would have some of the spoils of war and the rewards of harvesting. The end result of all this Sharing the Wealth is that stronger bonds and alliances can be had with other players and it make the game more fun. Working in cooperation with others instead of killing, bumping, and stealing from others. This would make Illyriad a happier and friendly place. |

Ideas like this are why you shouldn't make posts about imaginary whiskey after consuming real whiskey.

There are a number of different ways the different drinks could be utilized in the game.
Bribing at factions, lowering the tax rate or purchase price by a percentage (I imagine Illyriad officials could be persuaded by a stiff drink), perhaps speeding along building time or collecting (as workers and harvesters would be fueled up and full of energy so could produce more quickly). Then you could also include some funny results, such as if someone overdoses on drinks they could lose their bonus and their lunch: ie throw up until they learn how to control their intake and usage. The main reason I think it would be a good idea is that this would add even more versatility to the game. Currently there is only beer and wine, but beer is just used for quests and wine for traders. I am certain that different beverages could be used (or combinations of them) to make for more interesting situations. Plus it would add a whole bunch of cool new items to harvest and collect. Another idea would be that the different beverages could be used in different magic spells - to help the wizards, warlocks, and witches speak in tongues and loosen their tongues when doing spells. Having several drinks could make the spells more effective and or have humorous results. Instead of killing invading armies, the drink aspect could transform the invaders into flying monkeys, or caterpillers, or wild dogs. Then those creatures could (drunkenly) fight each other to the death, leaving a bunch of hides for collecting by the rest of us. Just imagine all the hilarity that could ensue. |

I feel like this doesn't really fit for Illy, but you have the beginnings of a really cool alcohol distillation simulator :P
