Irwin, and my alt Iodrik the Ipaler Have abandoned accounts and quit.
Three or four years ago I was Molgzonor, a vet and a tolerater of broken and indefinitely delayed dev promises.
I have probably coughed up around a grand American in my time and have met with broken promises coupled with obviously personal dev involvement with game mechanics (ie abandoned alt next to me  for new BL alt having productions frozen while long abandoned cities nearby I keep tabs on continue having queed resource productions rolling out)
Then small kills of wild dogs just for commander exp sit there for a week then you loose 2k troops on scaled chargers and the kill despawns in 24 hours screw the skinners you haven't even got all the hides. Happened 1 too many times.
The fundamental reason I quit is this game doesn't make enough money for continued polished development. Done the math, the average active player volume and the reasonable percentage of paying customers tells me the development issues are obviously due to lack of manpower.
But they can afford enough to have gm's personally interfere with players game experience, reminicent of EVEOnline's early growing pains.
I am not spending any more time or money gambling on whether Illy will survive theses same issues as my prognosis is the player base is simply to low to afford real professional improvement and the genre is to broad for them to sell out to a large company which will keep them on for further development

EDIT: I edited out the word "Nazi" from "Nazi gm's" earlier. Sorry, forgot to list the reason. - Rikoo

Always sorry to hear that someone is leaving, but if you're not having fun any longer I understand.  I do know that the game market is harsh and you're correct, it's hard to get a paying user base in the world of free games. I've bought prestige on my main. Not because I really need it, but to try and support the game a little.   Hopefully the new influx of players has helped a little

But back to the topic, Enjoy wherever your path leads you and maybe we'll see you again in the future.

Hi Irwin / Iodrok,

GMs do not interfere with player's game experience, and I'm afraid to say that the first I've ever heard of you was today whilst reading the petition you submitted yesterday - the first petition that you or your alt has ever submitted - and that I haven't yet had a chance to answer.  I'm not sure what possible motive you could ascribe to "obviously personal dev involvement with game mechanics", but I can assure you that you're incorrect.

However, I wish you the best of luck in whatever game you choose to play in the future.

Regards,

SC

It is always sad to see long-term players leave. On the other hand, I feel like any game that can hold attention of someone for 3 or 4 years is a success.   There will always be people leaving illy one reason or another, both related to the game itself and a variety of other personal and life reasons.

I don't know much about the economic aspects, but I do appreciate how well the devs do in terms of game-polishing with relatively few resources available to them--if anything I have always felt the devs err on the side of perfectionism. Its true that this sometimes means that new features are slow to arrive. I am sure this is a hard balance to keep and it will unfortunately make some players unhappy no matter what balance is chosen.

To Irwin, good luck with everything. If you find another game you like enough to play for several years, then that will be great. Or perhaps you will not play games anymore at all, who knows. I never picture myself continuing to play games for too many years. But for now, I very much like illy (e.g. am addicted xD ) so I hope the game continues to do well.

Generally don't care when players abandon, and truthfully not this time either but I must comment on the derogatory statements of the OP aimed at the game/Devs.

Of the two examples he mentioned of "obviously personal dev involvement with game mechanics" I can only shake my head and call BS. Neither of these episodes are unique to the OP nor are they actually that rare. Possible reasons abound but that's not even the issue. This player played Illy, in one incarnation or another for a long time. He paid RL money to the game. Now he quits, for who knows what real reason and wants to blame it on the game. It looks to me like the game was quite successful here. I just don't get the vile some players want to spit at the Devs but I suppose it is just the nature of the internet. Anonymity allows folks to say things they otherwise wouldn't in polite company. Jeez, just abandon and go. Why spew hatred in the forum? It won't convince a single soul to not play. It only serves to make you sound like sour grapes.

Whew! My 2 cents. I'll take a breath and calm down now...lol. Thanks for reading. ;D

Hi abstractdream,

I agree.

We would urge players to open a petition and wait for the petition to be answered.  I would also say that submitting a petition (about NPC drops going 'missing') on Friday evening - and then waiting for less than 18 hours before quitting the game - has some slightly unfair expectations about our available response time.

If a player hasn't actually opened a petition about something they think has gone wrong (in this case the stoppage of resource production from an abandoned town) then I also don't think it's particularly fair to subsequently use this occurrence as (unwarranted) evidence of our "obvious personal involvement".

Regards,

SC
