I'm interested in starting Illy book club the first book I'm proposing is Ysabel by Guy Gavriel Kay if people are interested I'm thinking giving people a month to read and then we can discuss on forum so people who are interested please have read by 21st of June. I would also like to hear from people who have suggestions for the second book to be read. Also any other suggestions on how people want the club run would be appreciated

I have read Kay's Fionavar Tapestry and loved it.  I will try to get Ysabel from the library.  Great idea!

I will be setting up a series of voting rules for future books to be selected but I have chosen the former partly because it is a stand alone volume, he is my favourite author. I by no means want a dictatorial club where I choose the books though. If people express an interest in participating we will also have to collectively come up for some rules of discussion. I want everybody to feel free to offer their opinions without fear of ridicule, whilst still encourage robust debate. I'm not familiar with "The Way of Kings" but am more than happy to see it listed as a candidate for the 2nd book to be read.

If I remember correctly (Ysabel is on my bookshelf but I need to read it again) it has characters from Fionavar in it although its totally a stand alone and doesn't require the previous books to be appreciated fully. Fionavar would be far too long to use so Ysabel is a good choice. Kay is one of my favourite authors so looking forward to reading it again Smile

One I would suggest would be Charles de Lint's Moonheart.

Look forward to having you join us. Something I am wondering is a month an adequate amount of time for people to read the book listed. I'm thinking any more and it becomes to irregular, but with all things to do with this club I am open to suggestions.
