Sorry to revive this old thread, but I was excited to see a couple of people in addition to Q on IRC. I don't know if any are Illyriad players though or if there is any interest/need for a chat that isn't tied to the game.

You can create a login page with the correct channel by using the following URL
http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=Illyriad 

As 7Skiaxtro discovered, you can't have nicknames starting with a number, so picking something else like (a7Skiaxtro) is a necessary. Also, you can't use any "special characters", only your basic numbers and letters in english (you probably can use utf-8 these days, but i remember a time before IM when IRC was the method of chatting and you sure couldn't try anything fancy then). 

There's lots more magic to IRC and I can dig up some links later.

Edit: Apparently there are ppl alive and kicking on the chat (have talked with two so far). They're no longer Illyriad player and I'm trying to get an answer to why they're there.
