Topic: ...military enhancements ideas Posted: 24 Dec 2012 at 05:15 |

Just a couple ideas for the military minded individual. If any of this has been mentioned before, apologies. I did actually look for a minute. :) Allowing more than 1 barracks in a city would be awesome. For active npc hunters, this would be invaluable. 1 more thing concerning attacking/occupying. The ability to hit 2 targets consecutively. Just like a single attack (orders given before departure) but have the option to continue to a 2nd, then either occupy/return home. 1 more...allow messengers to catch and communicate with armies in motion. That's all I got...game is great though btw!

The first one, two Barracks will never happen. The other two, I believe are part of the (sometime) forthcoming Pathfinding. I know interception is in the works but I don't know specifically about Messengers.

...why wouldn't 2 barracks ever happen? what about being able to send soldiers from one city to another, not as temporary reinforcements, but as permanent members of the host city? I still don't know why 2 barracks wouldn't work......?

More than that: there's no need to buff troop production rates (let alone double it) from where they are right now. With 10 cities and 200% sov (easy enough to maintain until your troop levels get so high that you start to need food sov) an Elf can produce 100k Trueshots in a few days shy of 30 days.
If the devs would like to address a real problem with how military mechanics work they should look at divisional equipment. Right now there's no practical justification to equip non-commanders with anything save draught horses for cats. The gold/attack-point ratio is incredibly lopsided in favor of building new troops and in any major action (such as a siege or coordinated series of city attacks) the number of troops used will be in the hundreds of thousands making it impractical to use equipment in any effective way.
My suggestion to fix the very-cool but very useless equipment system would be to allow 1 piece of inventory gear to be 'used' by a higher number of divisional troops. A ratio of even 1 gear to 10 troops is probably too low for warring alliances but something like 1:50 or 1:100 would make me reconsider all the 'Tier 3' materials I currently let rot in my capital.

yea 2 barracks would be insane, also the move troops between towns thing has been talked about, it would be bad, really bad :P one could send a single army with 500.000 troops in or ofcourse more.
as it is now you have to coordinate your troops to land at the same time so that they all dont die.
and that is without going into the economics of it which would bug out even more

I had long since wondered about how to make troop equipment actually worth while. The only one I came up with would be to make all the stats about 100x better than they currently are. Which to be honest I still think they should nix a lot of the negative boosts.
But I greatly support the idea of instead of creating 1 set of armor. You create 1 x100 set of armors for each of the times you make equipment.
Right now there is equipment that say costs 10k gold to buy, and offers +10% (for the good stuff) to 1 unit. The unit itself costs 1k gold to build. IE you would have to pay 100k gold to create 1 additional 1k gold unit.
There would be a slight upheavel but quite frankly I don't think we see any mass movement of Tier 3 armor and weapons yet anyways.

T3 armor is good for defending in your city (that is, if you really want to) - via auto scavenge you get the equipment back immediately. For example, reinforced leather armor gives a significant def bonus against cav.

well if you can find atleast 25k of it i might be interested in using it in one of my towns :P
trying to outfit a army or enough troops for it to matter is impossible right now.
