how are others using the alliance pool? are u using for medals, for prestige building of alliance members, for military buffs? for incentive to bring players both new and established to your alliance? how are u adding prestige to the pool? are u requiring people to put in daily their daily login prestige, are u requiring an alliance fee to join or even to stay in the alliance, are you having a few well heeled members feed your alliance pools? is it changing how your alliance is playing, more specialize accounts, such as resource producing accounts, military accounts both offensive and defensive? in what ways is the prestige pool changing the way your alliance is playing? please stay on topic and please no attacking the writers or others ideas, please no attacking whether the concept of alliance pool is good or bad for the game, but actually how ur alliance is using it for game play

So far we are not using it, but if we did it would probably be mainly during war to support a player being sieged; the player could use the prestige for instabuilds and troop and commander buffs, for example.

I suppose we could create a role "Hot Seat" to allow access to spending large amounts of prestige for this purpose.

We are not using it. The only reason we would use it is for rewarding a player for something. So if an alliance member did something impressive, we would give them the "hot seat" access to the pool.

RES is not using Alliance Prestige (AP) at all.  We decided that Prestige is real money and AP will ultimately cause disputes among players about who is spending more RL $$ and who is taking too much from others.  Unfortunately, I suspect that future tourney prizes will dump into AP instead of individual prestige prizes - I hope this does not happen.

It is a very poorly designed system in that it does not allow true transfers between players.

I think the AP and the "Medals" are HUGE steps BACKWARD for Illy in that they attempt to sow discontent within alliances as well as reaffirm that Illy is not so much a _game_ but a _social network_ that is now driving players to spend RL money to show off to the rest of the community.

Absolutely horrible developments.  Medals are big reason I participate much less in GC these days.

Each player should have the ability to disable seeing other players' Medals.  I block them in GC, but now they show on the player ranks, too.  I try to get away but the damn things keep following me!

HORRIBLE IDEAS!  Both AP and Medals.

To me, this is evidence that the business model of Illy is flawed and the business is trying to find ways to stimulate sales of Prestige while the business is incapable (probably through lack of capital) of developing long previewed game enhancements.  Clearly, the current revenue stream is inadequate.  This means revising the revenue sources:

1) Subscriptions to play - will greatly reduce the player base

2) Buy a "win" Prestige similar to other games - will greatly reduce the player base

3) Advertising - should have minimal effect on player base since everyone is accustomed to ignoring banner ads on the web anyway.

With apologies to the op for disregarding his noble injunction against discussing the merits of the system: it is inextricably linked to the decision about its use.

VALAR is not using either AP or medals at present.

That may change in future if it becomes universally expected or if an equitable system can be devised for its use.

I agree entirely with TD's remarks about the problems the system brings up: at the moment alliance membership involves only a time commitment to a lessor or greater extent. Prestige (real money) is a matter of personal choice for each member.

While you can say time=money it is not universally true and certainly there is not one rate of exchange for all alliance members.

If an alliance starts to use the system and some people put their hands in their pockets there will be (at best) an unspoken suggestion that members are obliged to contribute or be seen as second class citizens.

I am not competent to comment on TD's opinions about Game development and remuneration and so I don't say anything about that.

I also would be curious to hear the ways in which people intend (if at all) to use the alliance prestige system.

Also, regardless of anyone's opinions on the medal system, I hope you'd understand our intent was to provide something as an optional prestige purchase that has no significant impact on gameplay. It's important to us to use prestige items in a way that doesn't severely disadvantage free players. And a medal that only affects the visual presence of someone's profile, popup window and chat, doesn't do that. Subscriptions, "pay to win" items and disruptive ads in the game, on the other hand, would do that.

Me just want to say...

SCH is also not using the pool thing (after all, we Orcs dont need to bath. orcs are gift whit natural good scent of dirty and blood)

BUT.. i do agree whit the Dwarf lady Luna. Medals are a good way to get ppl spending prestige in an way that does not hurt the Game playing of ones that dont spend prestige. So. it was good. Me like it.

About other concerns, the human Dude made.. about memnbers of alliance giving prestige or taken... I do see his points... and indeed my cause some complications. : /

FDU are not using this alliance pool either. In fact, for now, until we find a use for it, we are trying to prevent people from contributing to it who may not know better because we don't want people out their earned/paid for prestige because it was a thing introduced in the latest update.

I agree with TD about the medals and the alliance pool. Like Taelin, I can't really speculate on the development process.
