Topic: Newbs and Vets and ? Posted: 17 Oct 2011 at 22:02 |
From the time you enter illy, it is hammered into your head that vets are massively huge players that have been around forever. If you call yourself a vet with 5k population in gc, the tone of replies you will receive is that you are insulting "actual vets"...
However, recently we've began to see the potential danger of assigning "newb" status to anyone who isn't a vet. People troll for res and protection without knowing that at 3k population they are not a newb, but it's hard to spell that out because if you aren't a "newb" and you aren't a "vet"... What are you in the illy world?
So we are proposing a new term be added to the illy vernacular.
I've been discussing this with Rill and we've come up with the term "mid" to fill this void. If someone can think of something catchier and/or more appropriate, open to changing said word... just whatever it is has to be able to catch on!

Long live the social networking class distinctions! HUZZAH!
I propose we call vets "Lords" or "Masters" and everyone else "The Plebs" or "Vassals"
You may all call me "King" StJude!!!

One exception would be The Dude, while he may not have 75K pop he has a year or mores worth experience. I'm sure he more than qualifies as a Vet.

the dude autosieged himself to the ground. TD is a vet whit more than a year gaming time, a true veteran of the MK war and was forced to rebuild more than 1 town that had suffered siege.

There definitely should be no pop limit on what defines a players experience level.
To me, vets are the people who have been actively playing longer than I have, and I don't mean just 1 or 2 days or weeks, but months before I started. (I started in late May/early June)
To me, newbs are players who have never hit 1000 pop. But I don't want to use a pop barrier, a newb is someone who hasn't gotten to their 3rd town, they are still learning several of the basics, or have just learned them and are mastering them. They are developing themselves and figuring out what they want to do, what alliance (if any) they wish to join, etc. In other words "you still have much to learn, young padawan"
I don't feel there is only 1 experience level between newb and vet. There are several players who have been playing for 5-8 months who are definitely no longer newbs, but have much less knowledge and experience than others who have been playing for the same amount of time. Some of these players have never been attacked, used the market or been in an alliance.
So I would say (for argument sake) we have:
Vets Experienced Players (or whatever name you wish to give) Less-Experienced Players (or whatever you wanna call em) Newbs
What is the difference between a "Vet" and an "Experienced Player"? Well, the Experienced Player has enough knowledge to help other players, but still hasn't master all strategies of the game. Perhaps they haven't tried everything out yet (haven't sieged or attacked other towns, etc) or they still have a few things to learn.
NOW, ARGUE WITH ME!!!
