The Colony: A History
====Chapter One: The Beginning====
In the following months, High Kings Kale and Stuebenus were able to
rally several local lords to their cause. These new-found vassals helped
to increase The Colony's claims to the land. However, it was foreign
diplomacy that truly cemented their legitimacy
with royalty in other territories. A chance encounter with a diplomatic
envoy enabled King Stuebenus to initiate dialog with another kingdom:
Havoc Unleashed. Using this open door, King Kale was able to negotiate
first a Non-Aggression Pact and finally a Confederation
with King Johnny.
Using this happy occasion, Kale and Stuebenus began an aggressive
policy of military and industrial build up, to ensure that they could
protect their lands in a defensive campaign. To this end, King Kale
appointed his sister, Laura, to the newly created
post of Knight-General. Under her tactical and strategic prowess,
knights of The Colony began to train en masse.
But it was the shadowy figure of Lunaire, an Elvish fugitive and
assassin, who provided the Colony with its knowledge of potential
threats and conquests. Her spies were able to penetrate the deepest
levels of their target's secret dealings. This information
would be useful in the coming months.
Thus ends the first chapter of The Colony. But there are many, many more.
=====Chapter Two: Shadows of War=====
The idyllic days of peaceful building and expansion soon came to an
end. Answering the call for aid of a fellow King, Kale and Stuebenus
sent messengers to the Colony's vassals. A levy was raised, and soon
tens of thousands of troops began to march upon
the cities of a vile traitor to their friends. A mighty siege was
thrown against its walls. Guile and magic were used, in equal measure,
to complement the host of besiegers. Crops withered in the fields, and
livestock fell to hordes of ravenous locusts. Starvation
racked the city and all that remained was the final assault.
But the traitor was not finished. Several, desperate, waves of
soldiers threw themselves upon the spears of the Colony. Beating back
the foe time and again, the Colony and its allies stood triumphant. And
when the dust settled, and the last catapult had
thrown its final stone, nothing remained. This was the Colony's first
military campaign. Success had emboldened them, allowing for further
military buildup. There would always be another enemy. And the Colony
would be ready."
