Topic: Market order/prestige enhanced traders Posted: 19 Sep 2011 at 20:56 |

I would like an option for a trader to be identified as a prestige booster on caravans, with a customer rating system to track that they actually follow through.
ie., I order 100k iron from 1200 miles away from a prestige using trader, probably for a mark-up of course, I should expect that they use a couple double-speeds to cut travel time, even more if say, they don't log on till 6 hours after their goods where bought.
Oh, and sorry non-prestige users, don't care about your whining nor need your opinion, some people have no problem spending money on things they enjoy and should be rewarded for paying the dev's bills.

Wow.
Just. Wow.
I don't happen to buy a lot of prestige, partly because the game is more fun FOR ME without the shortcuts. I rarely even use the "free" prestige. (I have no objection to other people buying prestige and gaining advantages they value from doing so. Buy prestige and support Illy!)
However, I try hard to contribute to the game in other ways, and I'd like to think my opinion mattered to some people.
As for my opinion on this topic, I have no objection to having a marker for people offering a "guaranteed 6-hour delivery window" or whatever, which would require the use of prestige. Or perhaps there could be a "trader rating" like Amazon, which would tend to go up for people who use prestige to speed up caravans.
I'm guessing a GM will point out at some point that all of this will be solved in some mysterious way by Trade v2.
Overall, as a non-prestige user, I have no objection to your proposal, although I'm a little offended by your suggestion that my view is irrelevant. If nothing else, think of us non-prestige users as providing potential cannon fodder for your nefarious experiments. Just kidding!

So basically you agree with me. The snarky remark was directed towards the 'prestige users are somehow less-than' undercurrent of attitude I have seen displayed to my irritation.

I would like the trade and resource transport to be living part of Illyriad where also distance is a factor. So I don't like the unlimited speeding up the caravans as it is now with prestige. And I hope it will change somewhat when the trade 2 or pathfinding comes to the game.
And I'm quite against dividing players in prestige users and non-prestige users anyway in the game world. As I see it its much better for the game if there is 1000 players using 20 dollars for the game instead of 100 that use 200. And if heavy prestige users could push other players from markets it would be serious turn off for players who like to trade.
Personally I use prestige not usually to speed up caravans though.

This is sure to isolate players, or at least nudge them out of one aspect of the game. Where prestige is seen as a way of improving personal competitive standing, I always think about how the same could be achieved without prestige, e.g. a new building or researchable technology.
[IMO] While I think prestige has the function of paying our devs, I don't think it should give strong advantage. This is a game where the attributes/resources of your character counts, not the worldly possessions of the real-world user who drives the character (we could equate this to characters each having unequal gods to help them!). Everyone should begin the game with equal opportunity.

One factor yall may not recognize, as far as balancing prest. users, and non prest. users, is most people are members of alliances, which should by the law of averages contain a mix of both. So the benefits rightfully due people who are willing to put their money where their mouth is concerning liking and supporting Illy as a business, should spill over to those unwilling or unable to buy prest.
For a simple example, when I send care-o-vans, to random new players, I use prest. to speed them up.

I think you should only be able to play the game for a certain amount each day as the time on the hands of the real-world user should not be what counts. I don't want to be at a disadvantage because I am working and they are not...

Currently it is limited to 24 hours a day. That is fair enough.

How about the Markets show how long the goods will take to arrive (and also how long your vans will be out paying and coming back)? This would mean that pricing differentials could develop in different parts of Illyria (surely a good thing), and if someone prestiged up their vans (eg if Trade v2 allowed them to pre-prestige) then their "time to delivery" would be faster, which might result in a premium price. To me that would satisfy Yso Sris (without telling people if that player prestiged up speeds), and me (I want everyone to see the time to delivery so markets behave more like "real" markets)
