Topic: A PLEA FOR HELP! Posted: 14 May 2011 at 21:08 |
This may not be the right place to post this, maybe a personal message to SC would have been better, but by placing this on the forums its gives everyone a chance to voice their own opinion in either agreement or not.
SC I'm pleading with you please to promote another MOD or two. Global Chat is, at times, pushing the limits of what is acceptable and there seems to be a lack of 'coloured' names about to help keep things 'tasteful' at all times. Although as a community we do a pretty decent job of policing ourselves most of the time, the influx of new players, linked with the time constraints on both the GMs and MOD Strategos, means that more and more people are pushing the limits of what is truely acceptable. A 'coloured' name hovering/lurking in the shadows tends to keep people in line more for fear of the 'ban hammer of smite' falling on them. Although the filter does a good job of keeping profanity and spam to a minimum it de-humanizes the process and a computer does not always pick up everything.
I realise that there are restrictions placed on moderators which basically mean they can no longer really play the game and the people I would like to see moderate would therefore not probably be willing to do so. (I'm not going to name them either in here, in global chat or by in game message people so please do not ask me who.) I do feel very strongly that another MOD would greatly help though, especially if they are knowledgable in the game and can answer pretty much any (game related) question thrown at them.
All that being said I'd like to thank both StormCrow and ThunderCat, and all the other staff, for providing the wonderful world of Illy we all play in and the uncalculable number of hours you spend on our enjoyment. There are not words enough to express the gratitude for all of your hard work.

hey my user name on illyriad is in the color black, must mean I'm important. Edit: Yes on the serious note there have been a number of censor dodges and repeated words related to "ahem"sexual orientation and such, so yes a few more Mods or a increased time spent on Gc by the GM's and Mod's would be appreciated.

For the most part, the established Illyriad players are used to the expectaions of game and Global chat etiquette . However there are more and more people joining who have experienced other games where just about anything goes. This has become their norm. Personally I would like to have the high standards of Illyriad chat expectations maintained as well. Perhaps a few more mods available at various times will further the expectations of a family friendly chat.

When I joined Illy, GC was without the Mods and GM's for a while. They weren't on chat much because they were making updates. So think that while they're not on chat, they're making nice updates for all of us

Agreed Belth. The time they spend developing the game was what I was referring to when I mentioned restraints on their time. The also have RL to keep them busy.
Was just saying an extra Moderator or two would be reassuring to have around.

I don't think it would be that easy to find a Mod or two, because I believe a Mod HAS to be neutral,so I don't think it should be anyone that plays Illyriad. Sometimes,it's too hard to be neutral and you give in to pressure. That said I have no idea where to find a Mod.

I think as long as you found a mature level headed, most likely adult player, it wouldn't be a problem. Keep in mind that while the GMs would never admit it, there is certainly people they don't like. You'll never find someone who will be neutral, you just need to find someone who wont act based on their dislike for someone.

With the new 'Ban in chat' addition and if it comes to a choice: GM's moderating or developing then I err to developing. If its a simple case of an additional Mod at no detriment to development? Then of course.

Some of the GM's and also Moderator's have allowed themselves to become to informal and relaxed in their interaction with players.
I believe that the GM/player relationship should be confined to petitions and the forum.
I also feel that there is an increasing need for Mods to focus on what is and is not permissable behaviour in Alliance and Global Chats.
