Hopefully when factions and faction quests come in, there could be attacks of large numbers but it would have to be something you specifically clicked and accepted. A defend against X skeleton attacks quest would actually be really cool now that I think about it...

Speaking of armies... two skeleton armies are inbound to my capitol. It's Army of Darkness time!

For some, not all.
Not everyone is a warrior at heart. And massive AI or player driven attacks tend to drive away new players. If all you have is 20 spears and it cost you all you had and 6 of them are killed it can be demotivating.
Now setting up the Rift with thousands and thousands of them that those who want to can throw their armies at until they hold the entire thing, sounds legendary.
But personally, make love not war has always been my motto.

One way to have really big skeleton armies wandering around would be to have them use a modified Raid protocol, where they could kill at most 1/3 of the army they were facing. (Instead of the attacking army only being able to lose 1/3, the defending army could only lose 1/3). This would still not be great if there were super frequent attacks, but if the probability of being attacked were relatively low (especially the probability of being attacked by a really massive army), then that could work out and still be fun.

^ What she said. I mean, having stationary NPC armies numbering in the thousands is all well and good (motivation to build!), but mobile legions attacking randomly? One such attack could ruin a month's worth of work building an army, even for a player who's been in Illy for a couple of months. I doubt the devs want that! :p

Uh ... not all of us have the armies to withstand bigger numbers.
Unless the skeletons are smart enough to figure out how big a player is, having really huge skeleton armies wandering around randomly attacking could get sort of unfun for smaller players.
I mean, I wouldn't mind armies of say 100 skeleton warriors, but if I were a new player with 20 swords to my name, that would not sound like a fun day in the Underworld!

Like I was saying in AC, it would be really cool if this whole thing blew into a World War of Illy proportions. All of Illy against the undead.

Unless anyone has already noticed, it's been 666 days since Illy first started. SC seems to have a good sense of black humour
