If you want players not to spawn near you, settle near you or teleport near you - then you can claim sovereignty on those squares.

Oh, good, I'm staying for the same reason as Ryelle, so good to know that's acceptable to do. I assume, then, that "spawning" removes the human element - the system is generating the new spawns, and is obviously not programmed to acknowledge the ten-square rule. That explains how it works, thanks. Smile

Yes, a really big crow presumably wasn't thrilled when I was spawned two squares away from his town on what could have been decent sov for his town later.  To get over the shock he sent me lots of resources (3K everything is lots when you're small), and I sent him a few surplus cows until Rill told me that there is no such thing as surplus cows.  

I intended to exodus later (months later), but sadly my big neighbour started a deathly war with his alt, razing almost all of his cities.  His tournament III winner statue is now guarded by another crow.  And there are now new players spawned near my old capital, the current incarnation gave up shortly after the tutorial; maybe I'll raze this growing not hamlet.  The system would remove towns of inactive players after some time automatically, but it's more fun to raze.
