One of the newer players in Illyriad has been an absolute wiki-warrior at Arcanum Illyria over the past couple weeks (with my deepest gratitude for his efforts), and the data-based content available has been growing very aggressively.  I'm struggling to keep up with the editing, revision patrolling, and tweaks to structure and supporting content/templates.

As I do I'm also pursuing a full outline of introductory and intermediate articles, and a basic overview article that will index the per-section introductory ones (which in turn reference the intermediate ones).  You can see a half-finished first-draft example intermediate article in Siege.  After that I'll be re-vamping the main page, then there's the re-write of my calculators for NPCs, integrating them and potentially other web-page based tools into the wiki, HB 2.0 which I've barely started, etc....there's actually a lot going on, and right now most of it is happening on the wiki itself.

Regarding the meatier content/tutorial articles, I welcome any and all expertise or input--don't forget the help page (covering both help with wiki-editing and quality/structure guidelines), as I keep it maintained with frequent updates based on any new mistakes I discover that new contributors making.  I would ask that people please use discussion pages rather than dip directly into explanatory articles I'm in the middle of writing without warning, though.  There's plenty of opportunity for multi-user revision post-first-draft (when the stub indicator is removed).  And if you have educational content to post but don't know for certain where it should go yet (or if I have a place planned for it already), create and maintain it on your user page or a sub-page (like: http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/User:Me/My Article) and alert me when you want attention.  (I will treat such articles as works in progress and ignore them/patrol their edits only for violation of terms until asked for input.)

The guide that has been posted for T? is being revised due to the new UI.  It still has very good information.

It strikes me that these "Tips" and "Guides" would serve  a far more useful purpose if they were  included in the "Arcanium Illyriad" or whatever it is called.

Perhaps one the areas that that the community has been lax in is the development of this IllyWiki (as I prefer to call it). Other browser games have quite comprehensive wiki's and we; the community in Illyriad should now work to complete the work started by Honored Mule and other contributers.

We have had a recent influx of new players into this imaginative, techincal and "massive" game.  They will find it more enjoyable and stay longer if they have a reference source that they can consult and also contribute to .We should all work together now to bring guides from the alliances and experience from the  long term players into a reference source that we could all be proud of.

The two "Begiinners Guides" contained in this thread are well written and should become accesable to all rather than argued about by a few ( and I have to include myself in that).

The thread is diverging topic again--oddly this time without intervention--so here's some quick random tips:

  • Don't get overly excited about sovereignty early in the game.  Do research sovereignty when you've nothing better to research, but don't rush into it except to bolster a weak (3-plot) resource.  Pursued too early in the game, sovereignty will only hamper economic growth.
  • Level up your commanders by beating on critters, but don't go into a fight blind.  Reference the list of NPC party sizes and units to quickly determine what you are up against, and only send good counter-units (i.e. spears and maybe bows against a mostly-cavalry species like elephants).  The linked page above will help you find stats on NPC units as well as indicate what kind of unit they are.  And if any stats or unit pages are missing, send scouts to the camp to find out exactly what you face.
  • Stack NPC-hunting armies with attack-upgraded commanders as well as offensive units.  If your total attack value exceeds the target's average defense by a factor of 10, you'll take very minimal losses.  Note that this is total strength, not simply unit count.  An average elephant is equivalent to 2-3 cavalry units.  You can use this calculator to assess your own army's strength--NPCs are not yet recognized, but they will be when I get around to updating it and have all the data I need.

hehehee Clap

So newbies feel free to copy or discuss the Guide taken from the Harmelss/Toothless Restricted forum because it has such useful information which you will all enjoy and can share with each other.

But I would just like to highlight one fact and that is "Hamrless" and "Toothless " did not want you to have it. Think on that my friends.

Removed.

Any discussion relating to: Politics, accusations of espionage, copyright law etc should be taken to either the political, bitter sea or caravanserai forums.

If anyone feels there are legitimate legal issues that should be brought to our attention here, they are welcome to contact us outside of the game and notify us of it.

I have left sufficient replies to mark that there is legitimate concern for meta-gaming being involved in the posting of the reply in question, but beyond posting a link to a discussion in a separate forum this thread is to remain on topic, tips for new players.
