Some of us think that the Sylvans are part of a mystery along with Seelie Court and Unseelie Court, so I spent some time recently studying the Sylvans because I knew nothing about them. This is what I learned.

They don't have a hub, but their "territory" is in the forest west of Maplehurst in Meilla.

Their territory consists of 3 squares that they spawn from and occupy, then disappear from.

-359/255 Ruined Tower

-363/252 Forested Hilltop

-365/251 Barrow

There is also another square that they will occupy, but doesn't seem like they go there often. It's a rare herb located at -365/256.

Their behavior is like nothing I've ever seen factions do. They spawn and either occupy for 3 minutes or move right away to another square. They might poof on arrival or occupy for 3 minutes. They might move again.

Their unit speeds are 6, 7 and 8 sq/hr, however their calculated speed is 100 sq/hr. One time, there was an army that moved at 7.14 sq/hr, which was unusal, but it the expected speed. It also means there was at least 1 unit with a speed of 8.

With a 3 minute typical occupation time, it was not easy getting a scout report. I got lucky and got 2 of them in the Ruined Tower. The other report had 7 Lost Boys.

After a while, it seemed easier to just record them running around on the map. It makes more sense when you see them in action.

1st video - Sylvans: Typical Behavior

This is what you would see if you sat and watched the map for a while. It's at 16x speed, and on youtube, you can double the speed and make it go quicker.

2nd video - Sylvans: Unusual Behavior

The first army that appears moves at 7.14 sq/hr, and that is unusual, even though it is what they are supposed to move. But after watching the 1st video, moving slow is not normal for them. They move 100 sq/hr.

The slow army also occupys the Ruined Tower for 3 hours 26 minutes, but their typical occupation time is 3-7 minutes, and usually 3.

So, their typical behavior is not normal and their unusual behavior is supposed to be normal.

3rd video - Sylvans: Very Strange Behavior

I sent armies to occupy their 3 squares - the barrow, forest and ruined tower. This is their reaction. If anyone does not think that factions do anything, watch this. They reacted to my army's presence.

There is an herbalist harvesting the rare herb, but it is not visible in the video. This is why they could not occupy the square with the rare herb. They had nowhere to go and were going nuts.

When they spawned on the same squares as my armies, it was like they went through them. Sometimes I got a patrol report, but not every time they spawned or went down through my army.

Would a tool that records the locations of any visible armies belonging to those three factions every time the map updates be of any use? You would obviously need to have the map displayed constantly. It might help locating the area of their activity and possibly any special tiles of interest.

I love the tools you make, Tens, but it's not necessary. I know where they are and what they do, and it's the same activity over and over. The videos show a few hours, but I watched them for a couple of weeks and that's all they do. Rinse and repeat.
