for any situation that runs the risk of causing conflict or possibly war, my rule is 48 hours. Any shorter, and it is unreasonable to expect them to have seen it. Any longer, and you begin losing valuable time.

I would generally send an additional mail after about two days. Then send a nother one incase!!!

Some alliance leadership will read mail and not respond. If the leader of an alliance can't take the time to respond to diplomatic mail after 2 days then I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince them to answer. I would just continue with my plans.

I think this is largely common sense. Some things can wait much longer than others. If you're testing for inactives, I always wait a minimum of 3 weeks before sending diplos - at which point I send another IGM stating that if they become active again, I will send back anything valuable I thieve. If you're talking to alliance leadership, anything more than 3 days without a reply and I'd start mailing other members asking them to have someone with authority contact me asap.

My typical policy is the same as Rill's. I will wait 2 (or 3 days max) and send another one and letting them know my intent for sending the letter and wait another 2 (at max 3 days) before beginning. This is typically for going after whom I percieve as an inactive.

I periodically send out IGMs to players I think might be inactive and ripe for sieging or thieving. I wait at least 2 weeks before I try anything, then I send in scouts/spies and another IGM to see if they reply. On one occasion a player I thought inactive answered my mail only after receiving diplo attacks. I left them alone after that.

I would generally send an additional mail after about two days, just in case someone accidentally deleted or overlooked the first mail. It also depends on how well I know the person and whether I know they are a daily player. Sometimes if it's during the week I'll wait for the weekend, since some people are only online on the weekend (or some are never online on the weekend but only during the week).

Is there a standard time to wait for a diplomatic reply? and what are the time frames, if any, for different requests? a message indicating i intend to siege your city is different than i intend to scout your city. is there an established protocol for time to wait for varying types of requests?
