Topic: Spellschool Blending Posted: 20 Aug 2010 at 19:53 |

This is a suggestion for later in the game, when more spellschools are available, like the combat magic schools, necromancy, summoning, scrying/illusions ect.
What if your wizards had several spellschools being studied in a particular city, but 2 of these the wizards excelled at. Would they not search for ways in which to "blend" these magics in order to increace the benefit from both schools?
What i'm talking about, is combining 2 spellschools to create an entirely new school with the components of both spells (possibly with a hint of "customizable" content in here) and maybe loosing the 2 pure spellschools in the process.
For example, you could combine Runes with summoning, and cast a spell. The spell would sit on your gate like a rune, but when an army approaches would activate and summon X amount of creatures of whatever type to fight alongside your city, with different kinds of creatures for the varying rune types (amounts of creatures would need some thinking)
Or combine Geomancy and blessings, to give the bonus of both schools on an allied city (casting this on an occupation army would in essence waste 1/2 the spell.
Limitations to this, so as not to overpower the idea would be: You loose he 2 spellschools you combine in favour of the new combined one, but it still counts as 2 spellschools, The amount of mana would have to increase significantly with a reduced spellpower gotten from the spells (they are more delicate), and mutually exclusive Spellschools, like Blights/Geomancy o Blesses/Curses would not be able to blend.

You make me want to summon a spirit to give a 1% or 2% attack and defense bonus based on the terrain you are on. 1% for thin forests on a forest spirit, 2% for a thick forest. It would probably require you to mix Blessings, Summoning and Geomancy into one super magic school. It would give the super-specialization someone wants towns to have and add some more strategy to the game. But, maybe just a little overpowered. But, also, you are giving up 3 spell schools for a single spell that wouldn't be able to be cast very often (spirits get angry if you call them too often).

I would also like to see more longer range spells become avalible,as our alliance is spread all over i find it hard to help out some members because of range, couldn,t you increase the range by putting more mana into those offensive spells?
