Interesting also is those alliances which began and have maintained their alliance name since it's inception (nothing wrong with changing the name but I find it interesting these have not wavered from where and what they began from) - a bit cheezy I know but hey, that's me:

The above are the top 5 oldest alliances still functioning in a solid state of diplomatic and military affairs. There are others that are not to far behind .. like Victrix, mCrow, FDU, ect.. in the top 50 alliances. I find it interesting the alliances that have stayed the course since they began and continue as a viable alliances still.
(added [ect...] for those other alliances that are not far behind, but not in the top 5
