the fact that both cities were launched at the same time says it all.
illyriad has functioned for years on the 10sq rule and negotiation.
land claims forces compliance with another alliance's interests in places which that alliance do not occupy. that can't be right imho as you ought to control your 10sq and that's it.

please refer https://illyriadtimes.wordpress.com/2015/11/08/sin-captures-shark-city-in-vindorel-as-lost-a-concedes-loss-of-city/

look at the 10 sq of where that city was, there is a city from ecthelion that is inside its 10 sq, granted both cities were launched at the same time but if shark would have followed the T-SC land claim policies prior to launching the exo(and prior to T-SC disolving) they would have been informed of the ecthelion city already in motion especially since that spot was terraformed especially for that city and the terraform was destroyed hours before ecthelion launched.  now how do you expect us to inform others of landing inside the 10sq of a terraformed spot with a city enroute without the land claims?  and dont even suggest marker armies, there are too many alliances that ignore them too so i would like to know how your "illy norm" would handle this?  would the shark city be required to move or would they have to reimburse ecthelion for the terraform?

My unsolicited opinion states -

"Leave them alone - Let them fight!"

In Illyriad, MILITARY SUPERIORITY is the key to get the TOP SPOT being number 1 require millions of troops and allies!

If you envy these people, create your own WAR!

Use common sense.

As several people have previously been reprimanded for speculating on VIC's motivations, and you obviously know the answer, please state it clearly for everyone's benefit.

Oh snap, the "I know you are but what am I?" defense! Well played, sir, well played. Your mastery of playground comeback classics is peerless. If we were in the 3rd grade that would have gone off like a nuclear bomb. Mouths hanging open, mic drop.

I don't even agree with Pellinell, but if that was the best you had, then he obviously won that round.

Who says Elgeans can't move with their thoughts/plans into BL? And not be a land claimer? Who has said all TBL is going be for land claimers only? pfffffft... We know it's crowded in Elgea.
Telll me something I don't know.

What beliefs have they been perpetuating through warfare? The right to settle according to illy norms and to defend themselves from others who deny them that right? And have they really been exerting them onto the local population?

I wasn't aware that Shark was invading Fellinandire. But yes, when SIN decides to attack an alliance for some "challenge" and decides to raze some cities just because they felt threatened is quite "warmongery"

As some one from the bl this war is important. Shark and vic want to settle in the bl to stop land claiming alliances. Why? what do you care what we do down here? The alliances of the bl like our side of the map. There's room to breath, tons of herbs and minerals to harvest and mine, and we stay in peace with each other. Land claiming is strategic. It helps the alliances to keep there sovereignty and to protect resources. The elgean alliances say they only back 10 square settling rules but look at how crowded elgea is, there isn't room for that anymore. Now they come down here and want to set up military's and MAKE LAND CLAIMS IN NEWLANDS for strategic reasons. This whole land claim/anti land claim thing is a farce. Hell yeah elgeans believe in land claim, if they didnt they would not be ready to fight over a land claim.Go sin! Take it to them with everything you have, because all of us in the bl know you will!! I've watched both wars closely and so far sin has frustrated shark. Something none of there enemies have been able to do.

Both parties in this war have acknowledged that the central Broken Lands are valuable to their respective alliance strategies. Trivium and its allies sought to establish control of the region through a land claim, Shark intentionally thwarted that claim, and now their conflict is continuing. Other alliances like Invictus are trying to sway the outcome in their own favor. There is nothing especially surprising about any of this.

The interplay of lands and adversaries is the central theme of the sandbox. They are all playing the game of empires as it is meant to be played. I realize that the forum meta-game is part of the sandbox, but it is tiresome that all significant conflicts in this game must devolve into trollish name calling on the forums and in general chat. There is nothing wrong with treating your opponents with respect in a game, even if you are at strategic odds. Civility amid duress is the very definition of sportsmanship.

Maybe we could just observe the war with competitive enthusiasm, minus the disagreeable terms and sad violins.

"sad violin" is more disturbing than any other you named. It kind of reminded me or snapped me back into reality, it is truly sad.
