I was looking over my alliance info from the 'Options' tab.  I clicked 'Diplomacy' and found all the alliances which I could pick from to establish diplomatic relations.  When I clicked my own alliance, Cities of Refuge, (CoRe), I received the following information:
Diplomatic relations with yourself might seem like fun initially, but inevitably you'll end up at war.
I just thought that was funny.Ouch
