Illy is a sandbox, and can be played however one wants. I personally don't enjoy the "war" aspects all that much. As long as people who like to war respect my choice not to engage in military action, y'all can siege each other all you want. When players who like war attack other players who are not interested in war, that's spoiling someone else's fun. Not saying this has happened, just that I hope it's not something that will be seen as acceptable.
In other words, please don't pee in the sandbox. (No reference to felines, female or otherwise, is intended.) As to whether siege specifically is "too extreme," it's an interesting question. I'd say the main problem with it is that defensive options are rather limited -- surely such an extreme result should be substantially harder to achieve. Perhaps an option should be introduced for players to abandon and move cities with a caravan, which would preserve some or all research and liquid assets and actually more realistically reflect choices made during war.

That's not sexist, This is sexist.... [EDIT by SC: Snip. Removed. And yes, we understand that it's ironically intended as examples of possibly sexism; but either way, not suitable. tyvm] Peace x Edited by GM Stormcrow - 02 Jul 2011 at 20:15 |

All I have to say is that it is a DOUBLE entendre because it both refers to Hello Kitty being about a cat, but also uses a putdown that is very sexist at the same time. So don't play innocent about that.

Really? You're going to try and justify it and pretend you don't know why it's sexist rather than just apologize and hey! maybe remove it? Fine, I'll contact a GM about it. |

I want to get back on topic because I think this thread is important.
In a game such as this I think that if you are prepared to take the ultimate risk to win then you must be prepared for the ultimate penalty if you lose. That means you lose your cities and go back to square one. You should not expect to be presented with a failsafe option ( of retaining research or whatever)
In all honestly I have lost twice in Illyriad ,and have been sieged out of the game each time, because I was too intent on "winning" and not focussed enough to realise that the game is so massive, with so many pathways that the "drive to win" doesn't necessarliy bring success in Illyriad. Especially in the Ui2 (developed version).
If you look at the ranking system almost all the 20 players attained thier positions during the Ui1 (developing) stage as did many of the alliances. As the game has continued it has moved away from one that lends itself to a, full on, " conquer and be damned" to a multi option real time strategy and diplomacy experience. For those who aspire to dominate by force of arms in such an environment they must be prepared to pay the ultimate price.
Personally I know that it is a sobering experience to be defeated and lose my cities but I always new that could happen if I played a high risk pnp strategy. IF YOU NEED TO WIN THAT BADLY THEN YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO LOSE EVERYTHING.
This time around I am paying close attention to the posts of Shrapnel the Dwarf . That guy has really left us a rich legacy and if you are playing to make sense and a success out of Illyriad his method of play presents you with a good role model. Edited by Aneirin - 01 Jul 2011 at 10:44 |

Really? O_o
Definition 3 isn't coming into play here, there is a double entendre in use but not of the Mrs Slocombe "Are You Being Served?" variety.
Since the topic of the thread is "Siege is an Atrocity":
and seige in Illyriad is PvP:
Whereas:
Not sure whe I'm going with this any more; but is it really sexist language?
In my opinion what we are looking at here is a: Double entendre mixed with some sarcasim and verbal irony in a very simple response to head off Killer Poodle's mild troll/derailment. But its really not as funny if it has to be explained... ![]()
