A Side Event for the End of November

Hello, Illyriad! We all know that the server is headlong into a big November tournament. We wish all players and alliances the very best in their efforts! Since tournaments typically see a drop in participation near the end of the month from alliances that fall out of contention, we thought it would be fun to host a small Faction Play “side event” that gives alliances the opportunity to win one of 6 powerful Faction Play “rings” (aka medals) that will impart powerful bonuses to the ring bearers. There will also be a component to the event for Factions and their players to help increase or decrease the power of these rings for the winners.

Like SiegeQuest 1, there will be limits on the size armies and restrictions on using elites and gear, making it fair for all player sizes and also not requiring a large investment of troops so that alliances can remain competitive in the tournament.

For more info, please keep reading.

Overview

Sunday, November 29 will mark Lord Duran of the Naugrim’s 123rd birthday. In commemoration of this once-in-a-mortal-being’s-lifetime event, the ELVES intend to give to the Dwarven Lords the Helm of the Great Hall — a treasure constructed of goldstone, silversteel, and iceheart with a single shard of life set in the brow that imparts increased protection in battle. The Helm of the Great Hall was originally fashioned for the late, great Belegar Ironhammer, known to the Quendi as Corcahtar (the “Crow Slayer”), but never delivered due to the sundering of the ELVES and Dlord for many mortal generations.

Now that relations between our people have normalized, the ELVES see Lord Duran’s impressive birthday (for a mortal dwarf) as a perfect opportunity to deliver this great helmet as a token of our appreciation for their stewardship of hard work and perseverance in battling the forces of evil in Elgea.

We are asking our allies throughout Illyria to come celebrate this jubilee and participate in an event that could win alliances one of 6 precious, magical rings fashioned by the ELVES.

The Procession

Elf-King Jejune along with the 20 Scribes of Allembine will depart the Blessed Realm with the Great Helm and journey to Duran’s city of Karak Drax in Perrigor, Elgea. The cavalcade will arrive promptly at the halls of Karak Drax at 13:00:00 Server Time (ST) on Sunday, November 29. As the Helm is brought into the halls of the great dwarven city, the 6 allied armies that line the approach of the ELVES and the Helm at the southern entrance of the city will be entrusted with one of these 6 great rings.

The following rings will be given as prizes:

  • Valacirca (“Sickle of the Gods”) -- The bearer of this ring whose alliance has a positive ranking with the Dwarven Lords may call upon Dlord to reinforce their city or a designated square with Stalwarts or other reinforcing troops (Dlord chooses) within a Faction Play event. This call may be used once and no number of troops is guaranteed.

  • Túrin (Master) -- The bearer of this ring whose alliance has a positive ranking with the Elves may call upon ELVES to reinforce their city or a designated square with elven bow units within a Faction Play event. This call may be used once and no number of troops is guaranteed.

  • Lúmë (“Darkness”) -- The bearer of this ring whose alliance has a positive ranking with the Dwarven Lords may call upon Dlord to attack a designated square with Stalwarts or other assorted troops (Dlord chooses) within a Faction Play event. This call may be used once and no number of troops is guaranteed.

  • Elestirnë (“Star-brow”) -- The bearer of this ring whose alliance has a positive ranking with the Elves may call upon ELVES to attack a designated square with assorted troops (ELVES chooses) within a Faction Play event. This call may be used once and no number of troops is guaranteed.

  • Tintallë (“Kindler”) -- The bearer of this ring whose alliance has a positive ranking with the Dwarven Lords will receive a net +3 ranking with Dlord.

  • Aithorn (“Lightning”) -- The bearer of this ring whose alliance has a positive ranking with the Elves will receive a net +3 ranking with ELVES.

Each of these magical rings will impart Faction Play bonuses to the bearer and their alliance. The player with the largest amount of troops on the square when it is scouted will be entrusted with the ring, but the ring’s power will only be imparted to the alliance that they are a part of at the time of issuance. If the player eventually leaves the alliance, the power of the ring will dissipate.

How to Win a Ring

In order to be deemed worthy to receive a ring, the army that occupies each square must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Be in good standing with either ELVES or Dlord (depending on the square occupied and the ring alloted to it), with a +2 alliance ranking or higher with each Faction. If your alliance is below a +2 and you wish to improve your score, you must contact the leaders of the Factions and seek to improve your rankings through questing, tribute, or other Faction Play actions.

  2. Control the square. As the cavalcade approaches, Duran will send emissaries (scouts) to check which alliances. (It is highly recommended that scout defense is NOT used in armies. A failed scout report will negate the gift.)

Additionally, only one alliance may possess each square once Duran’s emissaries arrive to greet them. NAP’ed or confederated armies occupying the square will negate the gift. Therefore, it is important that alliances attempt to coordinate military efforts with their allies so they are not vying for the same square.

Alliances that occupy the squares with ranking < +2 will not receive a ring. However, this does not mean that alliances with negative rankings cannot seek to attack or occupy the squares, playing “spoiler” to the jubilee.

The Jubilee Squares

The following squares are the ones that may be occupied for the honor to win the 6 magical rings:

For the Factions

Players in Factions are prohibited in interfering with the jockeying of position on the jubilee squares. However, Factions and their members will play a key role in determining the power of the magic of the 6 rings.

The magic for the 6 magic rings are being channeled within the barrows of two sacred, hilly lands near both cities involved in the event:

The Quendi and Naugrim will seek to control these squares, respectively, on the day and at the time that the Helm reaches the halls of Karak Drax. However, the squares will be assaulted and contested by the Faction enemies of both groups.

  • If ELVES and Dlord each hold the squares, the power of the rings will be doubled.

  • If control of the squares is split, the power of the rings will remain as they currently are written.

  • If both squares are taken, the rings will have no power -- they will simply be tokens of Duran’s 123rd birthday and the gifting of the Great Helm.

All Faction Players who participate in this part of the competition will receive an exclusive medal for Duran’s 123rd Birthday jubilee.

Other Important Rules:

  • Any player or alliance outside of Faction Play who participates understands that they are 100% opted in to military action. This means that troops, gear, and other military assets may be destroyed by other players and alliances. If you do not wish to have other players or alliances destroy your military units, please do not participate in this tournament.

  • Factions and their members are not allowed to attack or reinforce the 6 jubilee squares listed above. Any Faction players or Factions who are found engaging these squares may be barred from Faction Play.

  • Alliances and non-Faction players are not allowed to attack or reinforce the magic generation squares -- these squares are specifically for Faction Play members. Any alliances or non-Faction Play members who are found engaging these squares may be barred from Faction Play.

  • We will use the same rules of engagement from SiegeQuest 1, along with some additional points:

    • No elite units are allowed.

    • No crafted or “T3” gear is allowed on units or commanders that increase attack or defense. (Gear that speeds/slows armies while not increasing attack or defense is allowed).

    • No teleportation or exodus of a city or terra is permitted to be used tactically in the tournament. Players who purposely teleport or exodus in cities <50 squares from the designated tournament squares will be barred from Faction Play

  • Army sizes are limited to 5K in XP value. If you are unsure how to calculate this, please consult this chart:

Remember that the main objective of these Faction Play events is for the maximum amount of players to have the maximum amount of fun. For everyone who participates, let's keep this ethos front and center of everything that we do. As time goes on and Faction Play becomes more robust, it will become increasingly competitive. For these early tournaments and events, everyone's main goal should be participation, with the secondary goal of winning the rings and badges.

If anyone has any questions, please IGM Jejune.

We look forward to your participation in this fun event. Best of luck to all!

Happy birthday, dirty old dwarf.

Please expect me to be there with bells on, disrupting the party, drinking too much, and starting fights.

Just a quick edit to the launch square for the Jubilee square for Elestirnë -- the link was wrong. This is the correct link:

Fellow Illyrians: I am pleased to announce that the Helm of the Great Hall has been officially and ceremoniously passed on to the Naugrim from the Quendi, as originally intended by our forebearers an age ago.

The Helm was presented unto Lord Duran for his 123rd Birthday. Whenever he wears it, the magic from the Shard of Life fashioned to its brow is activated, providing he, his commanders, and all Naugrim who fight with him on the field of battle an increased level of protection from harm.

Additionally, whenever the Helm is worn as Duran's active medal, the Dwarven Lords rise +3 in ranking with the ELVES, as we regard the Dlord's affirmation of the magic of the Helm as a powerful sign of their embrace of all that is good within our lands.

Winners of the Ring(s)

Alas, only one of you throughout all of Elgea and the Broken Lands sought to herald the 123rd birthday of Lord Duran and the presentation of the Helm of the Great Hall -- in itself one of the most critically important political and spiritual events in the history of Illyriad.

The 6th square was held by Lord Zolvon of LAUGH at the moment my cavalcade arrived with the Helm at the great doors of Karak Drax. Lord Zolvon, you are indeed great among the Atani of our lands, and songs of your wisdom will be sung throughout the Blessed Realm for ages.

We, the Quendi, present unto you the great Ring of Aithorn. Behond, the ring, which is given to thee, and only thee.

The inscription on the inner side of the band reads as follows:

Aithorn (Q. “Lightning”) -- The bearer of this ring whose alliance has a positive ranking with the Elves will receive a net +3 ranking with ELVES.

Verily I say unto thee: the hand of no other mortal shall ever wear this ring of power, save your own! Forever will you be counted among the quendendil.

Because the other squares of the jubilee were not occupied during the approach of the procession, those rings are thus retained by both the Quendi and Naugrim. Our kin will decide if someday they might be offered to those deemed worthy to bear them.

The Magic Squares

I am also pleased to announce that both magic squares were held with little challenge by both the Quendi and Naugrim. The brave kin of our factions will receive exclusive badges for their participation in the safeguard of the power of the rings.

We thank our brave brothers and sisters for their participation!

Because both magic rings were held against the forces of evil, and because only one ring was given, all of the increased magic has been infused into the Ring of Aithorn. Originally, it was said that the power of the ring, though granted to an individual, would be applicable only to the alliance that they occupied at the time of the jubillee, now, the ring is bound to no one but Zolvon.

Thus it is written: whatever alliance Zolvon may choose to join now or in the future, he brings unto them the blessing of the Quendi and a +3 ranking in the eyes of the ELVES, no matter the standing of that alliance with us.
