Jejune, upon further consideration, in order to avoid this post devolving into a debate about word choice, I have changed the word you found offensive. It has been used in a number of mainstream media, including Time magazine, but I would not want an issue of wording to detract from the main point of the discussion, which is that such behavior should not be tolerated.

Personally, I find the use of the "s" word in this thread by Rill to be highly offensive in an of itself. Even if she is talking about a form of harassment in the abstract, I would think that that term would be off-limits in what is supposed to be a rated-G forum. We certainly wouldn't accept the "n" word here, even if used in the abstract and without any hurt intended.
I hope the game moderators will consider whether this thread needs that word in order to have this conversation.

While I agree with all of what you have said, I would like to highlight a particular section that is a very accurate description of my feelings on the subject
"I don't care what the Illy political persuasion is, sexual harassment and slut-shaming are never OK. Such personal attacks, whatever their motivation, make global chat an uncomfortable place even for those not directly targeted and as such are bad for the game." "sexual harassment and slut-shaming are never OK" "never" NEVER. |

Recently there have been a number of incidents of sexual harassment and sexual shaming in global chat.
For those who are wondering, sexual shaming is criticising or "exposing" a person for sexual activity (real or alleged) or for behaving in ways that someone thinks are associated with sexual activity. This sort of harassment is most often directed toward women and represents a form of sexism. It can also be directed toward men. Illy rules prohibit sexism and sexual harassment. In the past the developers and community have done a pretty good job of addressing this issue. I think it's time for us to take a stand together, as a community, to say that this activity is not OK, not by anyone, not toward anyone. I propose the following: 1) Players who agree that sexual harassment and sexual shaming should not be tolerated can indicate their agreement in this forum post. 2) We need a statement from the Illy developers reaffirming their opposition to this practice and their willingness to enforce existing rules against it. 3) On an alliance level, I encourage alliance leaders to state that they will not tolerate this behavior from their members. I am not posting to encourage witch hunts or vengeance. Most of what we need to do can be done in global chat and private messages, by letting people know that sort of behavior is not tolerated and by ignoring or blocking the offenders. I am also not posting because I have an agenda regarding Illy politics. I have seen these sorts of comments coming from different sides in Illy conflicts, including sides I agree with as well as those I don't. I don't care what the Illy political persuasion is, sexual harassment and sexual shaming are never OK. Such personal attacks, whatever their motivation, make global chat an uncomfortable place even for those not directly targeted and as such are bad for the game.
