Topic: Rude Neighbors Posted: 23 Sep 2011 at 07:01 |

Here is my stance on this topic at hand.
I find starting wars over caravan bumping, caravan destroying, and not liking the person because they talk too much or have a different personality than yours as petty.

^ like that, and to chime in, the only time I bump is if I really am desperate for the resource or if its right next to my city.

Yes, you are allowed to reply and give your opinion which is also what I did. Let me elaborate however so my thoughts may be better interpreted,
We have a player"meagh" having a rude neighbor"s", reflecting on how some players more so new ones are claiming nodes for themselves or just sending caravans when they see yours on there. While I agree that Meagh should be allowed to attack the players, as this is an action of provoking, you would have no business attacking them.

My take on this is that A- You send your caravans to a node that popped up in map- not in your city therefore its anyones game. If you keep getting bumped then find another node or get your res per hour to a point you dont need to harvest all the time. Me personally - i no longer harvest nodes as i think the time is a waste since my res production is efficient enough to supply me. B- If you dont feel like you should go find another node then keep bumping back- or send an army to take out the other players vans. One of you will lose patience eventually and give up the endeavor. I dont see a point in quarreling over a meager amount of resources. C- Dont think of it as bad neighbors- think of it as - its a game and they are here just like i am. You have one free move and pretty soon even more so take that for granted and move to a happier place that fits you

But it doesnt concern you, let the newbies fight it out, you dont have to quell every spark of rebellion.

I'm not quelling anything! I was merely giving my opinion (which is what this thread is about, I think?)

My observation is that a lot of players come to Illy from games where you have to talk tough to get respect or whatever ... it takes them a while to chill out and get used to the atmosphere. So a rude response from a new player is probably best met with some mild suggestions about how to make friends and influence people.
All in all, I agree with Squill about chilling out. Harvesting is mostly for noobs, or people who are clearing off the nodes for other purposes (and therefore don't care much about getting bumped).
Vets can set an example of the civillity we expect from new players by being civil to them.
However, vets are not paragons of virtue EITHER and don't have unlimited patience. As a newb, I wouldn't count on any particular action NOT being the one that will push said vet over the edge.

Squill is not quite a newbie, I beleive the point of this discussion is to see the communities attitude, as to whether attacking an aggresive newb is acceptable. So Komo's views are very welcome. Personnaly I would say that perhaps raiding the city of an aggresive neighbour once or twice as a symbol of what you could do is acceptable in responce to an aggresive mail, going beyond that maybe considered a little harsh.

i would replay "for the Lulz"
on a serious note, harvesting is for new players... dont see how established members of illy would even NEED to send vans out harvesting ...

Do you not XP farm!!! gotta get those pesky resources out of the way, and the newbies are just too slow at it.
