This has a very important lesson in it for everyone I think. Once you have called in your allies to a battle it is a much longer road to peace. Perhaps in the future people will think twice before calling in help.

If you still this it's all about what happened around that mine, you are probably deceiving yourself. If that had not happened, someone would have directly tried to take one of our cities and called us aggressors for defending against the siege, and .. (..the same story in the last few dozen pages)

I would argue that perhaps people will think twice before taking any military action at all -- instead there will be more negotiation.
One of the things that is ironic about this is that some players who are participating in this war profess to desire a more active PvP environment. But in reality by demonstrating yet again the severe cost of the mildest PvP venture, I think it's likely that most players will become even more risk averse than they already are.
Unintended consequences? You heard it here first.
(Or maybe Salararius said it first ... I think our statements are related but not quite the same.)

Of course you're happy to talk peace now that all the armies are either en route or already landed. The classic shoot first and ask questions later approach - kinda how Absa got themselves into this mess in the first place.
FYI it seems as though no-one's actually listening to you as the attacks are still rolling in.
Anyway - enough posturing - time for Soup to put their money where their mouth (and actions) have been.

So, in other words, RHY and Absa have agreed to cease hostilities, but H? don't care - they are still going to pursue the war because... errr... they want a war.

I don't presume to tell others how to play - unlike a certain high-pitched voice we all know and fail to tolerate.

So, H? "fail to tolerate" Rill. What does that mean? "If you criticise us, you could be next"?

just for those within Consone ... I mention alliances instead of player names... not to confuse... just to simplify - I obviously only have input from SkB pov - Absa & SkB are conferated. this confed pre-dates Consone - after multiple mining disputes, RHY chose to occupy a mine (m1) 2 squares away from capital, which I had failed to occupy (left for a couple of days) - at that time we asked (I am not the leader of SKB - Buridan took over a while ago...and does a fantastic job there) for help (not for a specific action or attack) to ABSA - in the knowledge that ABSA had had issues with RHY before - I noticed another mine (m2) - also in our territory - was abandoned by RHY - so I decided to re-use RHY tactics & send a small force to occupy. I was in contact with player and leadership (or backup) at this time ... - first blood was shed by RHY on SKB troops - as a bigger RHY troop force was sent to occupy the mine (m2), replacing the smaller force that had abandoned it. - i received apologies from RHY on this incident - and explanation that the bigger force was sent because relations with ABSA were degrading... which in my opinion was ok, as long as this meant the original mine was freed & would be returned to me... - after a few contacts - this happened & I thought all was ok ... except that I heard that in meanwhile the conflict had somehow escalated between ABSA & RHY. - and the other mine (m2)... was quickly abandoned by RHY - I guess to prepare for a massive strike - after a few days offline ... we are where we are, with Buridan (because attacking the sieges on ABSA cities) getting incoming armies, a few look like sieges.
as to why we asked for help ... well whats the point of being in a confederation???

To be clear on the sequence of events from yesterday:
Consone agreed to withdraw from breaking sieges so that RHY could see that gesture and withdraw their sieges from Absa. Messages were sent to all Consone alliances and members to do just that, and that is what happened. I can verify any of this as required.
Jejune asked Grego for clarification and said that if we had withdrawn troops then they would withdraw sieges and talks would begin.
A message was sent to Jejune to confirm this and we asked that they withdraw their troops so that no more Absa cities were damaged. This was reiterated on the forums.
At a point where I thought a discussion regarding peace was possible H? declared war on Absa and Invictus and sent incoming troops and blights.
We would like to know:
Are there terms of peace at all? Is there an option of discussion about the matter?
Once I have discussed with all of our members our approach to the matter of attacks across our membership I will of course provide more clarity about our own thoughts.

There is no pause button on a siege bombardment or troop movements. Ceasing hostilities is a slow process of recalling troops and engines. It also means that should the peace process fall through, your opponents now know your likely targets (or at least your desired targets) and have had plenty of time to reinforce them and otherwise prepare for round 2. The element of surprise, particularly for siege warfare in this game, is a valuable asset, and relinquishing it should indeed be done with caution.

Indeed, a good practice would be to check the time for a messenger to the planned encampment, and when it has to be started for an emergency recall before the first bombardment. It is perfectly possible to recall a siege before it lands, as long as the messenger arrives after the army and before the first bombardment. But recalls for no other reason than talks, which could end nowhere for various reasons not limited to delaying tactics, would be utter dubious.

This is all true.
Once it was understood that the agreement was RHY would recall sieges and Consone would allow their troops to withdraw in good order, I certainly ceased sending armies to break sieges.
However, nobody could recall armies in motion.
On the other hand, RHY chose to raze a city after that agreement was reached. That wasn't an "armies in motion" issue. That was someone deliberately reaching out and choosing to destroy a player's city rather than sending a messenger to recall his siege.

To prevent this being taken as too extreme an accusation, consider that it might take a while for orders to filter through to all combatants. Maybe an eager player logs on and checks his sieges before checking his leader's latest missive? Who knows.
Yes, it shows bad faith, but it could be an honest mistake.
The big issue here isn't one siege - however upsetting that may have been for the player on the receiving end. The real issue is rather more important, and impacts everyone who plays Illy.
