Dear Devs,

Would it be possible for you guys to share some census information with the coders of the illy community? Particularly the browsers we're using, countries where we're located in and amount of people who use Facebook login.

If you could also share some info on the frontend technologies you're using (or planning to use) for UIv4 would be awesome.

Kind regards,

Tamaeon

Sure, glad to share (bear in mind I've truncated some of this data, so it's not all going to add up to 100%).

BROWSERS
Rank Browser %age
1 Chrome 57.21
2 IE 20.84
3 Firefox 15.61
4 Safari 3.90
5 Opera 1.14

Regarding specific versions:

On chrome, about 80% are on 41.0.2272.x, and 5.81% are on the latest (42.0.2311.90).
On IE, the vast majority (93.88% of you) are on IE11.  We do have 0.47% still using IE7 though - doubtless because they're playing from a work environment :)

OPERATING SYSTEM
Rank OS %age
1 Windows 82.66
2 Macintosh 4.81
3 Android 4.59
4 iOS 3.00
5 Chrome OS 2.29
6 Linux 2.22

There are others.  We even have 0.02% of you playing Illy on... the Xbox (!) ... I can barely imagine.

NETWORK
Lots of them, but top of the list (all USA) are 4.91% on Comcast, followed by 4.52% on Time Warner Cable Internet, 2.66% on Verizon, 2.55% on Charter Communications and 2.13% on AT&T.

GEOGRAPHY
By Continent
Rank Continent %age
1 Americas 57.38
2 Europe 27.5
3 Asia 8.48
4 Oceania 4.47
5 Africa 2.07

By Country (Top 20):
Rank Country %age
1 USA 48.69
2 UK 9.26
3 Canada 5.15
4 Australia 3.42
5 Netherlands 2.28
6 India 1.86
7 Germany 1.80
8 France 1.19
9 Brazil 1.13
10 New Zealand 1.04
11 Turkey 0.96
12 Portugal 0.95
13 Finland 0.95
14 Greece 0.94
15 Philippines 0.90
16 Russia 0.89
17 Belgium 0.89
18 Italy 0.85
19 South Africa 0.78
20 Poland 0.76

Within the US, top 10 States:
Rank State %age
1 California 10.87
2 Florida 7.41
3 Texas 7.19
4 Washington 4.75
5 Pennsylvania 4.28
6 Michigan 4.16
7 Ohio 4.03
8 New York 3.31
9 Illinois 3.21
10 Oregon 2.81

I'm not going to share login information though, I'm afraid - as I can't see what use that data would really be outside of our corporate domain.  Sorry.

Best,

SC

I'll leave this one to TC to add info to, but it's going to be pure HTML5 plus, of course, WebGL.  I think you can ultimately expect WebAudio to make an appearance, touch support, a removal of mouse-hover facilities generally, and be on the lookout for future GamepadAPI and WebRTC support.

However, and it's really important to note... The current non-WebGL UI will remain supported.  We're very aware that WebGL isn't supported universally, especially on the useless Apple product line, so for the long-foreseeable future there will continue to be a 2D Canvas version of the world map and the UI.

Cheers,

SC

useless Apple...lol

TEXAS is well represented. Awesome!

I don't know who cares but I wanted to declare that I've got a Windows 8.1 touchscreen computer now (was on iPad and Android exclusively before) so, I'm looking forward to the WebGL update...HURRY!

Also, PATHFINDING!

I loved this data (yep, call me a geek) and did some maths yesterday to make some comparisons and determine the proportion of some countries' populations that play Illy.

Had to make some guesses, and used some national population figures from different sources so this could all be wrong/debatable, however I have calculated:
  • Proportion of the population playing Illy is very similar among UK, Australia and USA.  (For the record: comparing those 3 I calculated UK highest, then Australia, then USA.)
  • People in the Netherlands are almost 10 times more likely to be Illy players than those in UK, USA, Oz.
Fascinated me.

I think that in order to expand the customer base, the UI would have be available in multiple languages - everyone must use English at present and I am sure this limits it's reach.
