Cause people don't like change. Give them a week and they'll be fussy about something else. Like how people are upset about how animals in npc camps are treated. |

How about this?
In the bitter sea, true some flaming could occur on a regular basis but it was still history. So in a sense, you wiped out some of the players history in illyriad.
Just a thought.
Edit: I'm fine with a community manager, things could get pretty hectic with little flame wars going on with all sorts of people participating, myself not excluded. I just feel like locking that whole forum would have been better then wiping it.

I do understand and have heard everyone's concerns but the status of the Bitter Sea forums has already been decided and taken care of. I understand the confusion and that people have questions which is why I have not removed this thread.
In the future I'd hope that when I request that people provide feedback in a specific manner that they do so. But again, this is new for us right now so I am willing to work with everyone as best I can.
@Dhenna I hope the community can come to understand that any changes I have made or will ever make have the long term success of not only the forums but Illyriad itself in mind.
@The_Dude Suggestions regarding moderation are best sent to me directly. I'm happy to hear everyone's thoughts but at this time moderation is not going to be a democratic process. I do listen and take into account player concerns when making my decisions though.
I will always be as "gentle" in my dealings with everyone as I can be. I'm not here to spoil anyone's fun. That would be counter to my role as community manager. :)

I would appreciate the discussion about how to gently proceed with improvements in forum and community administration to remain open, too. Or should everyone that wants to be part of that discussion send a private message to GM Luna asking what thoughts are currently being considered?
I agree with Dhennas analysis: do proceed, but be gentle.

I am sorry but I don't think that the high handed approach is the best way to go about cleaning up the forums.

This makes me think of all the Facebook users who seem outraged every time Facebook makes a change, and 2 weeks later can't even remember what the change was.
AFAICT, most of what Luna is doing is just clarifying how things already are, and clarifying a few common sense points. The only changes I can actually see - e.g. the removal of the Bitter Sea - are entirely appropriate to a game that is growing, and that (as it needs to be inclusive of more, diverse members) is turning from a small club into a broader assembly.
The way that the devs interact with and support Illyriad's community is very cool - and now one of them has made the community her main focus, which is great. I don't see why people would be anything but supportive of the devs on this.

This particular topic is not actually a question about the game which would be the prime purpose of posting a thread in this topic section.
I suggest a thread in the Suggestions & Enhancements section for comments on how these issues might be best handled.
I doubt the goal of the Dev Team is to stomp out all player interaction.
But in the interest of supporting the idea of forum moderation (which has been lax) I think the community should help guide how that might proceed. And that would reasonably be a Suggestion & Enhancement topic, right?
