TOR and TOR-U does encourage newbies to participate in controlled
PvP combats. I think a more interesting set of rules (like blockading a city or
sieging without siege units) would make it more interesting. Many other players
have proposed similar things before and often it did not work out due to poor
efforts and difficulties in implementing such ideas. Also I think players
should have a certain size before they can actually get to PvP. In order to
implement such an idea, you will need to stick to it for a while before it will
work. But I do think it would be great to have more PvP options for TOR-U, TOR
and eventually other alliances and newbies. Maybe you can find some interesting ideas for combat rules here: http://illyolympics.wordpress.com/ I wish you good luck with your idea. |

Mini-tournaments seem fine. You could even use cities. I'm not sure why anyone would bet on the outcome, since Illy heavily favors attackers. That goes triple if you cap the amount of troops, because then you will obviously know the terrain, and can calculate the maximum possible defense for all troop types.

Greetings, Recently I have been thinking about PVP combat in illyriad. It seems to me that players (in particular new players),have very little chances to practice one on one combat before tournaments / wars. My idea to solve this is to set up an inter- gamer combat betting system . Players will agree to a set "wager" before selecting a set square on which to fight. They will also select the max number of troops to send if they want as well. To help run this I would suggest a senior alliance member in every alliance will become Betting Masters (BM'S) . They BM'S will organise the matches among their members and will take a small % of the winnings for their hard work. If this is run successfully I believe that it would allow players to learn about combat with sufficient practice. What do ye all think? |
