Hi everyone,

We're proud to announce the forthcoming launch of our Steam version of Illyriad.

After some consultation with Valve, the launch date/time has been set as Wednesday the 11th of January at around 2000GMT. Please note the changed date!

Unlike the regular web version of Illy, the Steam version of Illyriad costs 4.99USD/3.99GBP; however for this price you do receive an additional starting bonus of 200 Prestige, which is a modest one-off discount on the current price for 200 prestige.

The Steam version works side-by-side with the current game and is played in the same world as everyone else, however it comes with some additional functions:

200 additional Prestige (in return for the Steam purchase price)
525+ Steam Achievements for those of you who like collecting on Steam!
Steam trading cards
An optional Audio soundtrack whilst you're playing
Additional Full Screen support
Steam Leaderboards (Steam Friends + Steam Global)

Best Attackers - Attack Score
Best Builders - Build Score
Best Defenders - Defence Score
Best Diplomats - Diplomacy Score
Best Magicians - Magic Score
Best Questors - Quest Score
Best Researchers - Tech Score
Biggest Traders - Trade Score
Biggest Landholders - Town + Soverign Squares Count
Largest Populations - Total Population
Casualties Inflicted by Attacker in Single Battle - Herald Attackers
Biggest Brokers - Your Buy orders accepted > 1000 gold

If you're:

A current Illy player with a Steam Account

You can choose to purchase Illy from Steam and choose to link your existing account, gaining 200 prestige for 4.99USD/3.99GBP, which is a one-off discount on the regular price of prestige! Just make sure that you choose to 'link existing account' when signing up via Steam to have it applied to your current account.
A current Illy player without a Steam Account

A current Illy player who doesn't care about Steam at all and doesn't want a Steam account

Carry on playing Illy as usual; hopefully you'll see an influx of new players, but rest assured that they're all playing in the same game and ruleset that you are!

If you're an existing Illy player and you choose to purchase the Steam App, we'd be super-happy if you could leave a favourable review on the Steam site when the game becomes available.

Collectors of Steam Achievements will be delighted to know that we'll assign achievements retrospectively, so any milestone you've already reached ingame over the months or years will instantly give you their respective Steam Achievements.

Since steam take's a certain % of income from the game's they host,does it mean that the cost of prestige might go up, to compensate for that % age

I can't wait to play around with the Steam communities.

Players can start their own and Steam is also a social platform so chatting, trading cards..... cool!

Will players who link an existing account and play on this new Steam version have the option to still use the browser, or access their account on other devices without Steam?

Yes, and players who have signed up through Steam can add a password on their account and preferences page to sign in with username and password; or use the Steam login option on the website log in page.

EDIT TO MAIN POST:

In a surprising fit of madness we wrote that the Prestige amount (in return for the software purchase) would be 500. It's not; it's 200.

This has been corrected in the main post, and will be corrected on the Steam store page shortly.

Many apologies for the error - no idea how that slipped through.

I am guessing that you will need to buy a steam illy for each account that you want to be able to play via steam which also means you will need two steam accounts and you wont be able to have them online at the same time since you cant be logged in with two steam on one PC even if you are able to connect two accounts with one steam you still wont be able to log into both at the same time via steam

We could connect two accounts to the same Steam account and offer a choice of account on start-up; but you could only ever be on one account via Steam at a time - so it isn't necessarily great for two accounts via Steam.

Although achievement-wise we could take the highest reached between the two accounts. Some items recorded in Steam would fluctuate with account change, like city count, population etc (e.g. stats that go up and down).

However you could use one via Steam and one via regular browser. Once you have linked an account (or created) via Steam you can also use your Steam login via the browser (Steam as the login type)

Given those constraints, how would you like it to work?

For a variety of reasons passing the understanding of we Earthlings, the Steam launch of Illyriad has been pushed back by a week to Wednesday the 11th of January at 1800 GMT.

Dear Devs

I notice that the trade scores per the global rankings are calculated on the new steam friendly scoring system but that the illyriad growth scores show growth using the "old" system. When will they be brought into agreement? It should be possible to run an update query against the historical data in the growth db surely? Yours pedantically,

When you start the Steam client, it will show this screen and you choose the "Link Existing Account" button rather than the "Play Now" button.

It will then ask you for username and password for your current account; then link them.
