Honestly, nothing of the games current set up really bothers me aside from this.

It is currently a hundred times more efficient to build your own stuff (at least for the first several weeks) than to trade it, because trading anything aside from basic resources (aka finished goods aka things people would actually want) requires you to specialize in merchant levels to the point that you are better off trading resources and building everything yourself.

Its just kind of silly, and I LIKE seeing economic activity even at the earlier levels.

I think trading research and leveling up the marketplace should bring benefits beyond removing limitations - most of the research we've got so far is fine, though things that speed up the caravans and make trading at a distance worthwhile would be really nice as well.

trading and the associated activities are vastly more important in the early stages.

For the first few weeks my caravans wore themselves out.  Now with caravanserai and 40 of the little buggers i hardly use them.  mind you - they are bloody useful when i do.

learn to love them and how to make the most use of them, they are always important.
