I'm going to weigh in here as a newbie (AND LoU refugee) who has been playing long enough to get somewhat of a feel for Illyriad:This is a non-issue....the LoU refugees will do just fine without interference or special treatment. These are dedicated gamers who are not afraid to spend when they feel it necessary. They came as an alliance because that's how you win in LoU. Also it's a bit intimidating for some to start a new game alone.
Could they have done better joining a training alliance?... Possibly, BUT there are enough LoU players already here to give them pointers. I say let them learn the game like everybody else; by studying the forums and asking questions. Chat moves much too fast with too much distraction to be really useful as a teaching medium. There are reams of material in the forums and tutorial videos for that.
As for the feeding frenzy suggested....that's the responsibility of the powers that be. If we do actually protect the newbies and give them a chance; then do protect them and give them a chance as you would any individual newbie. Otherwise, let them learn from their fails... The lessons learned the hard way are the ones you NEVER forget..
Besides, and this is my not so humble opinion, you will lose a good number of them because of the sloooow pace of the game and the complex nature of it as well. Those who do stay will either become L-crow or LoUless (L?) because merging alliances is also how you win in LoU. They will continue to do what they know until one or more realize this is a strategy game ,not a simplistic war game, and adjust their actions accordingly.
Imagine their surprise when they find the only thing you can win here with enough power and smarts is the right to choose the direction of a very playable sandbox game!....lol...Just my two pence...Dragonwort
------------- Just another wrench in the works..
