Hi everyone,

We're upgrading the forum software.  Exactly when, we don't know - it's up to the hosting company, but probably sometime today.

Lots of great new functions etc, but there may be some weirdnesses (and maybe a bit of downtime) as well; so if so, please bear with us!

Many thanks,

SC

That was quick...

Any chance we could get a brief run-down or a few examples of what's been added/changed?

Well, a huge amount of stuff tbh, most of it quite tedious and administrative, but some things to mention are:
  • Login/account creation/cookie storage is now more fully compliant with EU and US law
  • Your private mail can now store more than 5 items
  • Improved social networking sharing of threads
  • Improved display handling on mobile and tablets, including the Surface
  • Improved browser detection and browser-specific display formatting
  • Improved embedded media (eg youtube) display and iframe options
  • BBcode updates to latest versions
  • Improved anti-spam
  • A whole heap of outlier-case bugfixes too tedious to mention
But probably the most useful update is that you can now retrieve/reset your own password without having to contact GM Rikoo (there's a "Forgot My Password" link on the login page).  This does, of course, require that you entered a valid email address when you registered!

Best,

SC

And it now tells us how long ago a post was updated under the new posts lists.  Could be handy for people who don't come to the forum all that often.

Sounds like some good changes!

Excellent additions! It was also pointed out to me by Koda that the 'Latest forum posts' section is now showing only the latest post of the most recently active threads, rather than the last six or seven posts of the same active thread.

Thanks, SC!

I gotta be honest, your screen parameters are still 10% too wide for iPad. The text is clipped on both sides of the screen, most likely because of a mis-use of relative sizing and DIV.
