The Night Squires and TRIVIUM are engaged in WAR!

Don't get your knickers in a bunch, it's a war game. ~NS~ is a training alliance focused on the much maligned aspects of war in Illyria. TRIVIUM...well, they are just a bunch of warmongers. After little preparation and next to no sleep, it was decided by a handful of those who do that sort of thing that we should have at each other with almost no holds barred.

We will use every technique at our disposal, save Catapults to lay waste to each other. Any member not moved onto a Do Not Attack list is in play and any city with a wall is up for grabs. Once a wall is destroyed, the referees, in their infinite wisdom will tag said city as "destroyed." Once out of play, troops, diplo units and even resources located in that city are also tagged "destroyed."

Dem are da rules. Anything else goes. I'm sure this will be quite fun for both sides. Members of ~NS~ have far less experience in combat than the average TVM member but they have just come out of a similar war game and are raring to fight. TVM has been snoring rather loudly lately and had less than 48 hours notice to get their s**t together. I expect them to rally in short order, though. Should be a hell of of a war!

Here shall be posted whatever the participants feel is relevant. Maybe some taunting and trash talk? Maybe some begging to be shown mercy at the hands of the enemy? Maybe gloating? Apologies? I also invite players outside looking in to post questions, congratulations or condemnations. Bottom line is, everyone have a load of fun!

A war that destroys walls and not cities and count a city that lost its walls as a captured or razed city is a very good idea to simulate a real war.
Good luck and have fun

BV sez: Myr, you guys have not scored any serious hits. How can you say you're "kicking you-know-what"? I don't think you have enough troops between all of those so called trainees to take out even one of our cities. How about you just call it right now and save a little face?

'force sez: Aww, poor Trivial..umm Trivia...whateva...can't stand the heat, get back to Ursor. You guys think you got it? I don't even have a single army inbound and I'm smack dab in the middle of you poor excuses for a military.

I want to congratulate Myr on her success with ~NS~.  The alliance is very vibrant and exciting.  Great players enthusiastic about learning about all facets of the game especially the nuances of military.

Keep up the good work.

Good luck to both NS and TVM as they battle the "war of walls"

Considering Trivium is all cuddled up in the NE like a cage full of hamsters at nap time and my alliance is mostly still in their spawn spots, I think we are kicking butt. The only city under serious threat happens to be in the middle of your little cuddle-fest.

Not be sorry, Hager boss! It good that TVM not see real attacks. That mean nobody am notice ~NS~ armies yet. Please keep laugh at spell and steal, while we haul up smash and steel!

Hager am orc-smart for attack much smaller Osyazet in Ursor. That impressive for pot-belly dwarf. Most pink-skin are not know that brave is for stupid. Also smart for get other big TVM players for fight against tiny-Osy. Jagblade did get lots laugh for how many times pretend-mighty TVM players failed at Two Mountain siege. Skint thought he are leading training alliance of n00bs, but so am Hager!

Lots cave-hiders think that honor am important to Artefores, so Jagblade admire Hager for think like Parvacone. Him almost yellow-brave like Bonfyr Verboo. Daring pink-skin are attack a 1000 pop n00b with 1000 knight. That good tactical think! Tiny n00b Evae no can fight back. Kill her good! But Jagblade am curious about technicality... when Hager-boss say "real attack", do him mean attack tiny n00b? Sometimes little player stab rat or wild dog, am that Real Attack too?

Or am Real Attack for Jagblade dinner guests? Skint see 3 armies come to dinner at Kobold Hole. But Bonfyr, Skint kobold am now disappoint! Have scout two Verboo cities, and armies am only have 1 soldier! Why silly Bonfyr send joke army? Twice! How Skint am to level up him commander if Bonfyr Verboo am not brave enough to send real army? Next time no-brave Trivium big shots send 2000 knights to Skint. Stew pots low on horse meat. Can hear chainmail rings and stirrup rattle in pot bottom. Help Skint help you! Reduce knight population make big gold for Bonfyr and Hager. Reduce knight population make good stew for Skint! Nobody lose except knights, and knights not yellow-smart like tricksy TVM bosses. Knights am brave-dumb. So send Skint presents! Jagblade are mighty 2000 pop kobold, twice as big as Evae, so be sure send extra knight so be safe.

TVM big bosses not worry about hungry little kobold. Skint am already launch him first siege. Jagblade am lead it personally! Clever kobold was much inspire by how big TVM players gang up on little Osy. But ~NS~ players hungry, want bigger kill. You see Skint siege notice soon, tricksy pink Hager! Be sure send lots packsmen to die on points of kobold spears. Bonfyr can send Skint chariot to burn under stew pots, too.

Now if chub-dwarf and yellow-man are excuse kobold Skint, it time for him launch more thieves, arsonist and nasty magic.

Jeez, Bonfyr thank-you for the honor of sending 1,000 of your best knights against my fledgling town of 1,000. NS must look pretty frightening to you north-eastern dwellers.  Maybe you have had too easy a time recently, not seen enough action.  I surmise that your TVM troops are so fat and lazy that they can only just waddle around the neighborhood and down as far as Middle Kingdom before exhausting themselves and having to stop for a few more beers and dinner.  By the time you even THINK about heading into our Arran region you can only muster ONE charioteer?!  Maybe a little remedial work-out training is in order, eh?  Get your troops buffed up, it may come in handy.

So I've tried explaining the War of the Walls to a coworker (programmer) who likes gaming.  He drew this on the whiteboard.  I, being the project manager, had to correct him before development progressed too far.  "Clearly you weren't listening, I said we only use battering rams".  His only response... "I like catapults"

I so wish I could recruit him!

Sorry Skint

Dwarves are trained to win battles and wars not line our stew pots with bloody saddles and horseguts. Right now we are wandering the streets of Two mountains after passing through the holes in the walls we finished knocking down. After a farewell feast from the people there we will pack up the rams and head to the next target

BV sez: He said y'all are doing the best you can and that TVM should stop building and disband our armies to help out.

'force sez: As far as I can tell, he said TLC...ummm, TNA?, something...is targeting newbs. They've been sending their oversized armies into small, mostly defenseless towns. They've been slaughtering, from the backs of their horses the few volunteer militias that do attempt a stand and looting whatever valuable goods they find. All this instead of going after the members of NS who can defend themselves. It is a strategy one would expect of barbarians.

I would add that I don't blame a ruler with over 150,000 citizens stomping on a neighbor with less than 30,000 people in the entire kingdom but having his teammates pile on too seems a bit much to me.

BV sez: Are you kidding me? I gather you'd prefer we let you approve our plans, inspect our armies and supply your military with weapons, armor and mounts? No one said war was fair. If it were, it would be a game of checkers. Suck it up, we're out of cheese.

i hope everyone is noticing that one factor in this war is just destruction of walls. maybe siege destruction to buildings needs to be reexamined by the devs. should destruction of buildings be more related to the build time? evidently there is strong player interest in competing in military aspect of the game, but why is trade given the advantage in game playing style when there seems a strong possibility that more players are interested in military exchanges than trading exchanges? good job pointing this out to the two alliances involved.

True HAGER and lvl20 walls might take alot of stone to rebuild but they only create 20 population total so no big population loss and alot of good lessons learned before "real" war teaches them the harder way! Star Such as Osyazet's big mistake--never capture a city on a plain which is surrounded by great defendable siege spots, and then name it after those very advantageous sq's (Two Mountains)! Exodus those asap. Cry

Just to clarify, we are using all available tactics and units except catapults. That includes diplomat units like thieves, sabs and etc. Some members, on both sides have taken serious hits in that department. This exercise is as close to real war as we can muster, without the real loss of cities.

There am 21 easy city for TVM to win. Osyazet, Wilber, August, Dave. Most am alts of big TVM player. Am TVM having hard time for defeat itself? That surprise Jagblade. TVM players so good at do other thing to themself!

Not be sad for TheImp. Him cities are 8 easy target for ~NS~. Trivium use 10000 troops against tiny 8k pop player; why Hager surprised that Skint use 20000 troops against 121k pop player? Him city all huddle together. Even elf riders dangerous in big pack. Maybe Jagblade will send less next time, but if him Imp fight, Skint will let big ~NS~ players use cavalry, and thief, and arsonist, and nasty locusts.

Be sure tell TheImp him should fight!

Him little bit safe after Myr order Skint not be 'indiscriminate'. It false charge, Skint discriminate all time. But her say Jagblade cannot be extra bloody for no good reason. Skint knows, be bloody *IS* good reason for itself, but even scary lady elfs not always appreciate kobold scientific method. Empirical better than theoretical. Build empire first, theorize about why best later.

Jagblade leave Hager with thought for when him move south:

So, two full weeks in and I can report that this exercise is succeeding in every way. Both alliances are more active. Members are having fun. Some are worried and sometimes frustrated but those are only temporary emotions when they realize the damage is minimal and that they can recover within mere days as opposed to the months sometimes required to recover from "real" Illy war.

Lessons are being learned all around and the allies in both alliances are bonding in ways that otherwise would not be readily available. It really is good to see my extended family in ~NS~ as well as TVM, living up to the potential of the game, putting themselves to the test, embracing every aspect of the game and enjoying the fruits of their labors.

Thanks to Skint Jagblade and HAGER for taking the reins and running with them!

its amazing watching the team play occurring in your conflict. its a shame for the game that the combinations of variables are not explored more in this a war game. the devs have put so much effort in creating these functions and sadly the players were buffalo into not playing this game area and we became mainly non combative...hopefully broken lands changes this and players realize the fun they are neglecting.

bravo to both sides.  these are the best mock war rules yet.

Posted By: Brandmeister
Date Posted: 18 Aug 2013 at 21:46
I thought the recent eCrow-DB mock war had fairly realistic rules as well. They were based on the Illyriad Olympics site, with the addition of assassins and direct attacks. I thought that 72 hours of bombardment was a bit too long for a raze, but most of the scoring was from live sieges, not the raze itself.

I do really like the walls concept, in that it seems like far less book keeping than the I-O approach. Do you guys cap the number of battering rams? It seems like a siege could go extremely fast with 30+ rams, especially compared to the I-O rule of 12+72 hours.

Posted By: Hager
Date Posted: 19 Aug 2013 at 00:39
No we did not cap the rams. I had no idea when we began how fast a wall siege would go. Next time a limit on rams would help duplicate a real siege better

Posted By: Myr
Date Posted: 19 Aug 2013 at 01:55
On my side, we haven't been able to field many forces with 30 rams. Most people rushed to start building them when we announced and declared war. For NS 15 is a very large ram force to send.

Posted By: abstractdream
Date Posted: 19 Aug 2013 at 02:23
Yea, 15 Rams can just about get 20 wall levels down in a day, including set up.

It takes 12 hours for 15 rams to destroy 20 levels of wall?

o.O

What's the hit rate on rams? Even catapults are like 25% in the first hour. I would have expected it to take maybe 5-6 hours tops in the scenario you just described.

Posted By: abstractdream
Date Posted: 19 Aug 2013 at 14:38
My only experience thus far was 10 Rams took down 6 levels in 8 hours. As for 25% in the first hour for Cats, I've not generally seen that. That's kinda high from my experience. Maybe I just have bad luck, or maybe it's just too damned cold up here for the siege engine crews.

The War of Walls has come to an end. Dozens of commanders have been promoted, thousands of brave souls have been returned to their homeland to be laid to rest with honor and much has been learned on both sides, while vast amounts of goods and treasure and raw materials have exchanged hands.

HAGER of TVM and Skint Jagblade of ~NS~ proudly and distinctively served as Commanding Generals of their respective sides. Both of these exceptional leaders stepped forward to take charge, making the exercise a fun and worthy event for all of those participating members. Thank you Generals!

Many members on both sides served with honor. Without their involvement the War of Walls would have been a mere dream of a few hopeful leaders. However, because the members of both the Night Squires and TRIVIUM joined in and committed themselves to this exercise with every bit of fervor they could muster, willing to gain or loose as the winds of war dictated, this War of Walls was an astounding success and a testament to the fun that can be had if we are willing to give it a chance.

Here's to glorious victory, to all the lucky souls who had at it and to future wars and all the fame and fun that is to come!
