In the squared world of Illyriad a 10x10 radius rule for Tenaril or Exodus makes no sense what so ever. We need a 10x10 square rule. The 10x10 is already the farthest one can zoom out in the tactical map without using prestige.
Harvesting will become near impossible with everybody crowded together, and will lead to even more players treating this game like SimCountry: log in, fill up queues, log out. Having a piece of land where you don't have to look at other players towns will lead to more activity.
Devs, please change to a 10x10 square rule...

huh, eeeh so what was it you wanted? 10x10 makes no sense so we need 10x10?

Edit: as i remember and most think the 10sq rule for exodus and teleport is only so people cant harrass someone by going right next to them. aswell has the backlash possible in hindering peoples sov claims. otherwise i doubt there would be such a rule at all.

The 10x10 radius rule is a diamond, 10 squares out from your town: north, south, east, west, than connect them at a 90 degree angle. With this in place it is very easy for 4 other towns to be within 5 squares of your town...No room what so ever to breath and expand. This is the rule the devs have now.

The 10x10 square rule is an actual square, 10 squares out from your town in every direction: north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, northwest. With this in place no towns will be within 10 squares of your town...Lots of room to breath and expand.
It's very easy to define a 10x10 square, any player without prestige can only expland their tactical map to a 10x10 square. A true square.
Almost every game like this out there is either nonstop war, which the devs don't want, or SimCountry where you have a million towns and 10 players online at any given time.

A 10x10 radius is non-sensical.

I believe you mean a circle with radius of 10 vs a square which is 10x10 centered on the place you wish to settle - which also makes no sense since you have to have a square in the middle.

So what I think you really want is an 11x11 square centered on the location you are exodusing/tenariling to.

Right?

The 10x10 square that I thought was already in place, and needs to be in place, would be 21x21 on the tactical map. Your town is the square in the center with 10 squares in all directions left open for sov claims from you and your surrounding neighbors.
The 5x5 would be the 5 squares, in all directions, surrounding your town. An 11x11 on the tactical map that is available only to your town for sov purposes.

I am not really sure what you are going after. The extra 25.97 squares that people will not be able to move to?

Also, have you tried claiming sov on 10 squares in all directions? It really is not possible without spending a fortune on books. And you are only allowed 20 sov structures per town, so I am not sure why you are claiming that much sov.

Lastly, the 10 square rule is really easy to circumvent. If you are hoping this will keep more space around your towns, I am afraid it will not.

you dont need more then 2 tho :P as you reach 20 sov claims with those.

Also, we dont need hard-coded rules for these things, we got troops with pointy sticks that makes sure things goes your way.

So im for removing the distance rule all together. we are big enough now to handle this now.

Serjeanty allows you to claim up to 150 sovereign squares. The devs wouldn't add it if it wasn't possible, maybe sometime in the future.

you can yes, but you can only build 20 buildings making the other 130 a HUGE waste of money and you would run deeply negative on research aswell making it very expensive to retain

and to add: IF someone moves so close to you that it bothers you ask them to leave, if they dont raze them.

It is totally possible to claim 150 sov squares. It is just not particularly useful yet. One of the best uses of it (imo) is marking squares you don't want settled/moved on. So if you really want to keep your 120 squares clear, this would be the most effective method.

I agree with the need for a limit of how close you can land a city next to another player to avoid going literally adjacent to another player in a worst-case situation. 10x10 seems fair to me.

The problem seems to be the understanding of how that is applied. Some look at it mathematically with a radius that includes a fraction of a square.... others see it as 10x10 as seen from a map of an appropriate size (which in my opinion is scale 9). Many use things such as IllyTools to make their decision which of course is not an official tool in any way.

Assuming we need a rule like the 10x10 (which as I said, I think we do) - it must be defined in a way that's easy to understand and any player (regardless of prestige, add-on tools, spreadsheets or calculators) can apply just by using the map.

Disagree - that would be a complete waste of research points.

I thought the 10-square policy was just a de facto "rule" that players derived from the limitations on Tenaril's and Exodus?  Since the devs say they want a certain level of tension, I wonder if that range limitation will be reduced if/when the world becomes more crowded...  Do you suppose that would affect the policy?

effective method?! are you crazy?! you wanna pay hundreds of thousands in gold each day and go thousands negative in research because someone MIGHT land there once a year?!

the most effective and cheapest way is, have a freaking army and raze the town...

mmmmmmmmm  some of us are exploring maxing our sov spaces to prevent peeps from coming into our whole regions (124 squares). that 10x10 rule is excellent cause then we dont have to kill peeps and will keep alot of people from playing the game...gosh right now the game allows u to keep inactive accounts in the game forever using simple tricks.....good locations are disappearing by strategic castle placement.....oh this also makes all those players that log in once a month or less so important too....those fb accounts with auto logins become very important with this...this definitely will be a gamechanger,  maybe go in the opposite direction?

Gameplayer, you'd be better off playing one of those thousands of dead games out there that have a million towns crammed together with a few dozen diehards who terrorize any newbs dumb enough to join the game.

Rorgash, I thought i'd never say this...but i'd have to agree with you, an orc, on this matter. The devs set the guidelines but the players set the gameplay. Razing the town may be the only option.

Yeah but you could also say you're the guy who's taken a share of 1505 squares of land!

hehe, I never said it would be efficient, just effective. You can not teleport/exodus/settle/spawn on someone's sov. I agree it would be a total waste, but if your space is that important to you...
