Since we have this major war happening, i would like to start a subject dicussing different seige techniques so when others enter into the fray they have an understanding of different tactics  and how to perform the best strategy for each situation. Maybe we can get both the giver and the reciever to give their opinions.....

1) Click on Map
2) Send army.
3) Post all tactics publicly and give up any advantage you might have from your hard work and experimentation.

Gameplayer, there really isn't much tactic in Sieging.

If you plan a siege, you'd have to do much planning about having defensive armies arriving around the same time as the actuall siege engines.

For defense, it's more like:  How to get as much attacks as possible on that camp in the shortest time, while leaving enough armies behind for another siege.

To my knowledge, that's pretty much the end of the story...

actually there is alot of strategy to siege, let me come up with a few variables, time, distance, siege feint, support troops, amount of siege to send compare to size of castle.....i am always shocked that messengers are not used more....also why raid is not used more to attack camps.....interesting siege units not used more in attack....ways smaller accounts can help support or break siege....ways a smaller account can harm a larger account....i am always amazed how a smaller account can damage a larger account...often a larger account will pull when the base siege castle is under threat...we should share this information, personally i believe it would bring more equal war play in the game and add alot more strategy when the aggressive big boys can be threaten by smaller accounts....feel free to respond and i will be happy to add my knowledge of what amazing tools the devs have  in the war phase part of the game

Here's a suggestion: find out all the players who might try to break any siege you want to make and what troops they can bring to bear in any given length of time.  Estimate probabilities for all of these armies.  Put together a distribution of likelihood against attack strength, and figure out the best balance between the forces you send and their chance of bringing the siege through to completion.

Or if that sounds too hard, just hope for dumb luck.

also why raid is not used more to attack camps....

Raids are not used on camps because if you are willing to sacrifice 1/3rd of your troops, why not just send an army with 1/3rd of your troops? When you send a raid, you are letting the enemy know exactly how many troops you have left.

The only time to choose raid is when you want to get the enemies basic resources, but don't want to loose all of your army.

Raids are best used during a siege to attack the city directly. You reduce the number of defensive troops in the city, while simultaneously taking basic resources the city needs to build through the siege.

commander level and areas of distribution is also very important, also what type of commander, there is so many factors, so many different ways to change results, limit damage and also increase damage, i would hate to see this game become whoever the biggest wins, as i said smaller accounts can damage a larger account that is siege giver....we havent even talked at looking at terrain the siege is sitting on

Siege locations

Check your cities for any adjacent Large Mountain's or Large Forrest. The Large Mountain is the best location to setup a siege due to it's stat bonuses to defensive troops, and stat reduction to offensive troops.

If you have a slow moving incoming army to one of your towns with an adjacent Large Mountain or Large Forrest, there is a good chance it is a siege that is going to setup on that square. Ideally this could give you some time to stack your own defensive units on that Large Mountain to fight off any enemy troops that land there.

If you have multiple Large Mountains or Large Forrest, it is much harder to predict where the siege will land.

do raids lower health of siege commander? if several smaller players do raid then they still have troops left to defend their castles and help lower commander health for an attack from a larger player, or am i wrong in my assumption that commander can die before troops do? once commander is dead then arent the left over troops easy pickings?

Commanders can provide up 15% defensive bonuses to their troops, plus whatever the commander stats are. I wouldn't call a commander-less army easy pickings, but yes, they would be 15% easier to destroy.
