Opinions on the new avatars? I think they look laughable.

I don't have many positive thought contributions to milking the money cow cosmetic updates.

Personally, I have absolutely no problem with the art department portion of the DEVs spending their time making customizable avatars that give absolutely no edge in game play, yet provide players with additional means to support the game they enjoy.

I like this new addition. However, smaller prices (for smaller alterations) would be nice. e.g. you only want to change the hair color but nothing else = 10 or 20 pres. Background is good at 50 cause its awesome! Sex change (just like real life) will end up costing you - and possibly scar you for life.... but to each his/her own.

yes, that.
I also appreciate this element that comes into play re. prestige: "One of our core values with Illyriad is not to add Prestige spend options that give a significant advantage to gameplay." http://www.illyriad.co.uk/blog/index.php/2012/09/feature-preview-avatar-customization/" rel="nofollow - http://www.illyriad.co.uk/blog/index.php/2012/09/feature-preview-avatar-customization/
I think the new avatars are great!

I find the new avatars to be scary. If you go to the female elf and change the body, she looks like an old, angry, lady. Maybe making the avatars a little more cute... or in the case of the males, more handsome. Yea, The first time I started messing with the avatar editer thing, I got so scared that I started to scream (my mom came running in wondering what was wrong). So I have to give this new update a thumbs down. The idea was great, but the avatars need to be redone.

I don't think the Devs have seen this reaction before... Nor have I :P
Then again, I think the Dorf avatars were nicely done.

I was hoping for more options. Different hairstyles entirely, not just different colours. And also different objects to hold in our hands. Swords, shields, scrolls, scales, tools, gems, wands, trinkets, spyglasses... something that can differentiate a warrior from a crafter from a diplomate etc.

They may be added later, if the Prestige raised justifies the costs of the art department's time.
Personally, I'd like to see more dwarf heads, rather than just two (yes, there are supposedly more, but the differences are too small to notice ). Apart from that, the avatars are a great cosmetic addition to the game.

to save money just create graphic contests, i know people who can draw some of these easily in a day, not all in the same day ofcourse, such as the backgrounds and bodies, might be a day each but the rest doesn't take a day.
Aslong as some ground rules are set up so that it fits in with the IG style, or that who ever you have working on these things fixes them to make them blend in.
They have been doing this alot in another game i play and they are selling each outfit they added for 25$ each and quite a few are buying them. Latest competition had a guide rule which was occupations, and there was alot of great additions.
If it doesnt work then really nothing wasted since all you needed to do was make a post and talk through the rules and guidelines. give out some prestige to the winners and we can easily add ALOT of options :)
USE US!!! WE ARE YOUR SLAVES!!!

I remember someone suggesting the same sort of thing in a different on-line game I used to play (possibly Planetside, but might have been something else). The dev response was that they couldn't use community input, because they could not guarantee that it hadn't been lifted from somewhere else. I don't know if the Illy dev's would also hold that view.
