It would be useful for alliances to have like a mini-herald that only members could see. It would mean that players wouldn't have to message the entire alliance or wait for people to come on chat.

If this can't be done soon then in the alliance menu could players co- ords be shown for a quick reference for sending resources/reinforcements?

the co-ords idea isnt really the same as a herald. I like the idea of quickly being able to see where an allied city is, but the herald is good for posting private rules or requirements in the alliance.
It still would be really useful if there was a private alliance herald

Already on the Current Dev list guys:

ALLIANCE FORUMS

So you can all argue with each other ingame as well as out

The Announcement about ingame communication enhancements also contains:

Alliance Forums
A cut-down version of the public forums, for alliances to use internally and externally.

Alliances will be able to create their own subforums, and set permissions on these to be:

Public access (for eg an Alliance guestbook, Diplomatic overtures etc),
Alliance only access (for eg Alliance operations, planning etc), and
Invite-only access (for eg specific Alliance groupings, such as a 'War Council')

So you'll be able to create your own private (and public, if you wish) noticeboards etc.
