Fellow Illy players,

I understand that in Illyriad, the community shuns players who attack newbie players or players of much lower level, i.e. bullying. The community also tends to prefer diplomatic (as in, communication, not diplo units) solution rather than resorting to military actions immediately when conflict arises between players that are part of different alliances. I can see the grounds for those community reactions. As for those are agreeable or not, let's leave them for another discussion.

My actual question however, is : how does the community view military / diplo unit actions between 2 active players that are of somewhat similar level (i.e. not bullying) and not part of alliances (and therefore no alliance-wide wars are involved)? If I want to siege active player X's city due to its good square location for example, or I just want to plunder his stockpile of resources, and player X is not much weaker than me, and player X is also not affiliated with any alliances, will the community still see this in bad light?

Now of course, I understand that player X can ask for help from his in-game friends to protect him and retaliate against the attacks, and I have to calculate for that consequence. However, will the whole Illy bear down on me and witch-hunt me down like what is done towards bullies, seeing such military actions (considering player X's conditions mentioned above) as forbidden, or is this a fair game?

I apologize if this question might be a bit controversial. I just want to get a accurate answer so that it can guide me in my future Illy gameplay. Thank you.

If you are part of a large alliance, then your alliance will probably come under significant pressure to make you stop.  Whether an individual player is large or small, if the player is part of an alliance, that means a player hitting an individual non-aligned player is basically picking on someone smaller than themselves.  No matter how much people will protest that it is 1v1 play, it always reflects on the alliance, because the alliance would protect the player if things go south.

If an unaligned player attacks another player of similar size who is not aligned, then the player who was attacked may call in his/her Illy friends and/or may simply choose to join a large alliance.

But aside from those general observations of past behavior, I'd say that anything might happen at any time.  I personally think that people should exercise individual freedom in how they respond to such situations, which would tend to make it a bit unpredictable as to what might happen.

If worse comes to worse and your cities get sieged to the ground, you can rebuild or start another account.  Building cities is fun!

completely depends on player X. As long as he/she doesn't go to GC or the forums to tell how unfair the attacks on him/her are you can have your little attacks or even a small war.
In case one of the involved players is going to GC or forums, community will help the player who is best with words.
So basically, if you want to siege an unalligned player, pick someone who's bad in english, or one that doesn't mind too much to lose one town and is mature enough to except defeat. Just don't go destroying an entire account. People will intervere when you try.

The non Allliances player vs player scenario is a matter of balance, imo.

If you militarily confront an equal foe  for a "fair/good" reason [insert definition here] and stop when you have achieved that goal, I would say it is  ok (and I would add "after you have exausted all diplomatic options").
On the other hand, were you pursuing her/his destruction wantonly, just for the lulz of it, then it would not  be ok imo, and I would  probably step in for defense - if  asked  to - after having it discussed with my Alliance.

I  guess  that it could even come to the unlikely point where I'd have to  leave  the Allliance to do  what I would deem as right.
