Does anyone know the basics of diplo attack mechanics?

As of now, army attack/defense mechanics are understood. GM Stormcrow posted blockade mechanics.

This is NOT a thread for the STEEL/~NC~ current conflict; however, that conflict does show that the diplo mechanics need a review.

~NC~ could send over 200 diplo attacks. Yet with thousands of captured diplo's STEEL interrogation yielded ZERO results.

I was attacked with 1k T2 thieves. 669 captured. All died instead of revealing info. Really?
In that same attack, I lost ZERO T1 and T2 thieves. Really?

Last, turn on assassinating camped commanders. This would be a game changer for peeps camping armies on adv res plots.

Will any changes make things more difficult for me? possibly. But talk about the game being more exciting..absolutely.

Defending diplos currently cannot die.  Interrogation chances do seem dismal.

Unlike military mechanics, it seems there is a healthy amount of random in diplo mechanics.

That's most of what I know about diplo.

I don't know much about it, but as Rill said much of it seems to rely on chance -- weighted, controllable chance, but still chance.

I don't think that the current Murphy factor is healthy, but if you defeated 1K T2 thieves there should be a very visible effect for your diplo score.   I can't say anything about interrogation, players getting reports about my diplos typically won't or can't read any reports, one infamous  http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=3483&PID=43580&title=n-One-year-anniversary-tournament#43580" rel="nofollow - exception  not withstanding.Embarrassed

Here's what I understand...

Diplo combat is a comparison of attacker strength vs. defender strength with a random event generator in the mix.

The modifiers are:
Attacker Consulate Level helps attacker
Defender Consulate Level helps defender
Distance between cities - greater distance favors defender
Defender city size - smaller cities notice strangers better
The base attack and defense figures for diplo units are posted elsewhere in the forum.

Random is evil, not healthy ;-)
