I like the idea of not being able to use all schools of magic but since the not all schools are out we can't know which currently available schools (if any) we wish to reaserch.
Perhaps if we could choose once a month, ie once a moon, which reaserched schools the city can use that month.

The are 3 schools you can research at the moment.
Geomancy - Boost your incomeresourcerate
Blights - Offensive spells to annoy your enemies, decrease their incomeresourcerate and destroy resources.
Runes - Kill or scare away hostile diplomatic or military units.

I know i meant about only learning 5 schools out of the 7 or 8 planned and Apocrypha has been reaserched
I don't really like my idea now tho, i am now thinking that its unrealistic that an Apocrypha can fully master 5 schools but cannot know basic spells from any others, and that perhaps first tier spells should be able to be learned from any school, say 6 schools of tier 2 spells, 5 schools at tier 3, etc

It's not about realism, it's about balance and strategy.

Also, bear in mind that in your second/third/etc cities you can - of course - choose different schools to research; so it's not as if the other schools are locked to you.

It still might be nice to be allowed to give up research in a particular field for the sake of starting over with another...especially if it takes a while for the new schools to arrive.
