I don't see any grapes square near any of my cities, and I have also tried to look around the map and I've yet to find one. Are them all in a particular region, or really scarce? Or is this a bug?

Scarce. Someone in my AC spotted some but if I tell you we will have to wipe you out.

There are plenty dmar, mostly in "small green hills" kind of places. I have seen them in Keppen, Zanpur, Laoshin and some other places.

Lol Avion. But seriously, look around less populated regions like laoshin and you may still find plenty of unharvested grapes.

They are very scarce I've only seen 5 scattered around the map a bit. Kind of hard to see at first but they are there.

Ahem ... those of us already in Laoshin are tending our vineyards well ... tenderly. Given that you need almost 4000 grapes for one cask of wine, most of the vineyards already have armies guarding them.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.28 on a PowerMac G5 OS 10.4.11 and none of the harvest for minerals, grapes, herbs, etc are shown. Likewise sovereign shading is missing and the world map doesn't offer mouse drag to change location (have to use +/- and tap on region map).
When I use Safari 4.1.3 the above concerns are all addressed. I can't upgrade Firefox beyond this release due to the PowerPC architecture. I suppose I could try Opera and a few other browsers to see what results are. It'll depend on them running on PowerPC.

I suggest you file a petition or post under Technical Support, your comment is more likely to get attention from the appropriate people there.

Thanks for the anwsers, everyone. I still haven't seen a single grapes patch, but I will persevere. I want to be a trader, and I have to settle a new city soon, hopefully I'll find an unoccupied one.

Are they really placed in certain places based on the area of the map? I worried this might be the case. I don't understand the Devs reasoning in this. Make an item that seems fairly scarce, then make players require mass quantities of it in order to trade?

Grapes aren't required to trade. You can do town-to-town trades with caravans on the town-to-town market. And your first trader for your first trade hub doesn't require any grapes. So you can trade without having any grapes. But if you want to trade in distant lands in many hubs, you'll start to need them to create your traders.
It will take a while of us monitoring trade once the system is fully operational in game to tell if any change to grape distribution is required. Until then, we just have to wait and see.

I don't see the point in hording grapes. They offer no military advantage and no production advantage and what is the point of having traders if no one else does. People will sell excess grapes, unless they are just stupid.

If there are any excess grapes ... I have a city in a fairly grape-rich area and I've been gathering fairly busily without exhausting the available fields or being TOO greedy, and I still don't have enough for half a barrel of wine.

So I have built a Merchants Guild, and Trade Office but can't see where I can trade .... how can i town-to-town trade if there is nothing on my market screen? How do i put in a sell/buy Hides, or Minerals etc. Sorry if these are dumb questions, but hey ! :o) From your above statement I thought that this would be on the normal Market Screen, with new products opening up ??? Or when you say town-to-town market do you mean trades negotiated 'off market' i.e. negotiated directly with another player?
Please advise.
Best Regards

Do you built a trader ? If yes, find a trade hub next to you, click on it, look the menu...

Ahhh so you need a Trader even to do Town-to-Town trades with the new resources? Does that trader have to be in a Hub to do Town-to-town trades as well as trading with that Hub ? Or am i getting this all wrong?
Many thanks for your patience :o)

Trade hubs are not active in game yet.

You don't need traders to trade in the global market, but you also cannot sell/buy anything but basic resources in the global market, correct?
So if you intend to trade any of the new crafting resources or crafted weapons/horses/armors, traders ARE required.
Or am I misunderstanding how the system works?

As I understand it, you can *accept* buy and sell orders in a hub without a Trader, you just can't *place* them.

you need a trader to accept buy and sell orders and you need a trade office and the research to place orders

You need a trader to receive goods at a hub from your own towns with the faction markets research, and as you said, to create your own buy and sell offers at the hub (once you have goods and gold at it.)

You do not need a trader to accept any buy or sell order that is visible to you in the marketplace.
