Why does the human male have a weathered tan face whereas the human female have a seemingly soft, almost pale face?

Are we seeing two warriors of equal status, but the female applies an older style of makeup, perhaps lead or does she use leeches?Or is the human male a grunt, whereas the female is a type of Warrior Queen who appears in armor to command the legions, or at the least oversee the major battles. Is this  in days of old where having pale skin was a sign of wealth and status in society?

though if that were the case the woman would have accumulated more weight as another sign of high status was the ability to consume the foods you wanted, thus more weight although she appears to be somewhat slim in figure.

thoughts?

Beating on people with swords all day burns a lot of calories.

As for the skin, she had the good sense to use sunscreen.

Was a type of sunscreen discovered in old times, what is the formula used for this human character.

This is serious and I have wondered about this whenever I log in, I would enjoy an answer from those who created these characters.

maybe she wears an helmet ? and his bersek-looking male counterpart goes into battle with just his cloths?
or maybe she is a warqueen of Wolgast and he is a barbarian  King down in Azura?

Could be, could be. I'm more interested to see if there is a story behind these two though.

i bet there is a nice concept story behind those 2 graphic characters.
but i highly doubt they have things like "name" or "personal history"

Read about the artistic process behind development of the current avatars at the dev blog here:

And obviously the human female is not modeled after Luna, she is a dorf.

Thanks for posting that link Rill.
Can someone post the old avatars to sate this newb's curiosity?
