The latest game update is now live including all of the features below. Please note that if you use any third party tools for Illyriad, the new UI will more than likely cause them to break. If you are having any errors in game, make sure to turn off the plug-ins first, to make sure they are not the source of your problem, before filing a petition. Aside from that, if you have any questions or issues, let us know in a reply or via an in-game petition.

Enjoy!

New UIv3
The http://www.illyriad.co.uk/blog/index.php/2012/06/preview-illyriad-uiv3/" rel="nofollow - new Illyriad user interface is now in game. The old UIv2 is no longer available for use.

Changes include:
  • Tabbed sidebar for notifications/next events, friends list and alliance/global chat
  • Next events now includes both items in the research and build queues and now displays the name of the item as well as the completion time
  • Placement and size of un-docked chat boxes, map zoom level and advanced resources state are memorized by computer/browser, with settings on the Account & Preferences page
  • Additional navigation is available at the top of inside pages
  • Lore portion of the Herald is now in book form
  • New Release Notes and Stats page added
  • Player profiles display alliance medals and titles
  • Visual changes have been made throughout including border and background changes, color and fonts

Search
Search box added to top of sidebar can be used as a game-wide search for players, towns, alliances, locations, in game functions, etc. You need to type a minimum of three characters and it will show you the top 8 results. If there are more than 8 matches you can click the "See more results" link and it will take you to a page showing them all.

Friends Lists
Players can now add people to their friends lists. Additions must be approved by both sides. This will allow the player to see when their friend is online in the "friend list" sidebar. Add players by clicking on their name and choosing "add friend" in the pop-up options. Visit the "friends list" page in game to approve friend requests and remove players from your list.

Functionality includes:
  • Order friends in list
  • On/Off accepting request
  • Accept/Decline/Block
  • Withdraw invite
  • Online/Offline/Request notifications in bottom right corner
  • Remove friend
  • Live mini-medal updates in list
  • Friends name is purple in chat

Alliance Prestige Pool
Players can now donate and spend from a shared alliance prestige pool. Visit the "alliance prestige pool" page in game to donate. Visit the "prestige" page in game to spend alliance prestige by choosing the blue button options. Alliances can set prestige pool access and spending limits via alliance roles. Ledger page shows all transactions including donations and spend from the prestige pool. Once donated to an alliance pool, prestige is non-refundable and cannot be withdrawn.  http://www.illyriad.co.uk/blog/index.php/2012/06/preview-alliance-prestige-pool/" rel="nofollow - More info and a FAQ can be found here . You will only see the Alliance Prestige Pool if you are in an Alliance.

Alliance Medals
Players can design alliance medals on the new "medallist" page in game. Designs cost no prestige to save. Medals then cost alliance prestige to purchase and award. Cost of design depends upon components used. Award pricing is 50 prestige per award. Medals can be awarded multiple times and to multiple players at once. Medals include a player title to be displayed on the player's profile and pop-ups. Medals that violate the Illyriad code of conduct in text or design will be removed by the GMs and no refund given.

Functionality includes:
  • Profile Medal display
  • Medal Cabinet tab on player profile
  • Re-order medals
  • Choose Active Medal
  • Medal and Title on popup
  • Medals on lists
  • Medal in chat
  • Delete Medal
  • Accept Medal (if awarded from outside Alliance)
  • Share designs on Facebook

Mail Changes
  • The To column of “System” mails are not now hotlinked to a non-existent account – which means system mails now look different than player mails
  • Delete button on individual mails
  • Forwarding and replying now doesn’t drop original sender info
  • Can delete sent mail (this only removes it from outbox, not other player’s inbox)
  • Replying, Forwarding and Deleting now take you back to the same place in inbox you were previously
  • Sending a new mail now takes you back to Inbox rather than Send items
  • Auto-save of current mail draft, recipient and subject
  • RE: FW: only get prepended when they are not already at the start of the subject (so no more RE: RE: RE: RE: )
  • Original messages are now in a darker quote box in Replies and Forwards
  • Compose New, Delete, Reply, Forward are now at top and bottom of mail messages
  • Compose New, Delete, Mark Read, Mark Unread now at the top and bottom of mail list
  • Can change recipients on mails by clicking send message in friends list (or chat) without clearing the message

Prestige Auto-Renew
Players can now have their prestige account and prestige bonuses auto-renew by automatically deducting prestige from their account (you cannot auto-renew against the Alliance Prestige Pool). Visit the prestige/auto-renew page to activate. Auto-renew can be deactivated at any time.

Functionality includes:
  • Prestige Auto-Renew (Preference page and saving)
  • Expired Prestige Account added to notifications of expiring prestige items
  • Auto-renewal attempt but expire if  not enough prestige (notification + mail)
  • Auto-renewal on expire (notification)
  • Auto-renewal on expire, but if not enough prestige for next renewal (warning notification & mail)

Alliance Roles
Edit alliance roles page has been re-worked and cleaned up. New "daily prestige spend limit" parameter added. Edit alliance member screen now shows player population.

New role options include:
  • Speak In Alliance Chat (default true, can silence roles)
  • Can Mint Medals (default false)
  • Can Award Medals (default false)
  • Can Award Medals Outside of Alliance (default false)
  • Can now change “Default Role For New Members”. If switched off this is switched on for lowest role in heirachy. When switched on it switches it off for any other roles.

Other Changes
  • Siege now indicates when capturing a city is possible and if it is possible
  • Prestige history now displays the most recent transactions
  • Alliances page doesn’t duplicate alliances across pages (e.g. postition 20 doesn’t occur on page 1 and 2)
  • Commodity choice in market at top, between buyers and sellers and bottom of market place page
  • Accepting an invite from an Alliance without a default role or multiple default roles (including deleted roles) would cause an error. This has been resolved. If an alliance doesn't have a default role, the player is placed into the role at the bottom of the hierarchy.
  • Your player link is now shown as your player name rather than converting to "You" and "Yours"
  • Player and Alliance profile links now open in a new window when they are external urls
  • Player names, Alliance names and Town names can only use the following characters:
    012345789
    AaÀÁÂÃÄÅàáâãäåÆæBbCcÇçDdÐðEe
    ÈÉÊËèéêëFfƒGgHhIiÌÍÎÏìíîïJjKkLlMmNn
    ÑñOoÒÓÔÕÖØòóôõöøŒœPpQqRrSs
    ŠšßTtÞþUuÙÚÛÜùúûüVvWwXxYyŸÝýÿZzŽž_- and space.
Leading and trailing white space will be removed. Searching and sorting are case and accent insensitive so each of these letters can be searched using the simple a-z equivalent.
  • White space has been removed from existing names
  • Alliance tickers, Medal names and Medal titles cannot use the following characters: []|" Leading and trailing white space will be removed
  • Medal names and titles can be a maximum of 50 characters each

FYI The game is currently stuck in a never-ending 302 redirect loop for me winding up in an ASP.Net error page (the generic no-info one)

Update: Now the login page redirects here...

In our alliance chat some of the chat posts are double posting for the authors but not for anyone else.

Also there appear to be no NPCs on the map. *Correction - when you move the map around and refresh it they come back*

The status of people on your friends list is all squished up in an invisible column with a scrollbar instead of under the status section.

New UI looks great

But when I zoom in on my iPhone the sidebar and chats moves offscreen so I can't use them:(

Quick tip, if either AC or GC are missing  http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/Communication/Chat" rel="nofollow - switch  both on and reload the page.  The UI if loaded for the first time apparently cannot handle a http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/Communication/Chat" rel="nofollow - switch  from on+off or off+on to on+on, and shows only the last enabled chat.  After a reload the GC + AC tabs are shown and work as expected, e.g., pop out AC and drag its window on top of the initially empty friends list to see both chats simultaneously.

They aren't showing up for me and I've refreshed, reloaded several times.

Also agree with your comment about the double posts, it is a complaint we're all having in AC.

All line breaks have been removed from the alliance forums. Now nicely spaced entries/guides/conversations are just giant blobs of text.

Thank you for fixing the friends screen though.

I don't understand people comments. Look like the UI is not the same for everyone, because I really cannot understand how the people can like it.

I like the changes in this version, but not the interface. While everything is still the same, all looks bad. Mixed enormous and minuscule fonts? Useless trills and frills making the pages even less compact. Let's see what I dislike:

+ City drop down font is huge, completely unrelated with the rest
+ Central part headers (like "City Maps" or "Military Overview") are huge and useless....
+ tabs could be more compact, so much vertical space wasted
+ redesigned parts are horrible. ie Military armies, armies tab: huge font (a kill for the compactness) with graphic background (a kill for the eyes)
+ ranking lists: why the avatar icon ?? again a waste of vertical space. now i have to scroll every page, and the icon has no use ....
+ friend lists: same as above, useless avatar icons
+ all the buttons: red ??? it's an April foul ?

overall V2 was a lot better, more elegant, simple, compact, not perfect but way way better than V3

V3 looks really an hobbyist work, sorry...

PS
I am using Chrome. Let's hope this is the problem, but I fear it isn't...

I'm logged in as Subatoi now,

On EF logged in for 26 minutes,  half screen's images would not load up.  The messenger is lagging for me even though earlier today with chrome on the old ui it was not.  chat lags for me when i type letters in.

we shall see if more thingies appear

It's awesome. Two minor things that poke my eyes

1. glowing red buttons for everything (it takes the focus off the rest of the page. Those are better used for prestige spend as before. The old "scroll" button was very neat for generic purposes.)

2. Disparity is font sizes. Some texts on the page are small (notifications, resource numbers), while some texts are much larger(the tabs and the "city map" title).

Update:
  • Empty friends list instructs how to add friend and accept requests.
  • Friends list now doesn't break on adding first friend (though fixed by refresh).
  • Awarding medal now mails the recipient on the awarder's behalf with instructions on where to find the medal, its name, the title that comes with it and the inscription if any. As these are player emails they will not ever deleted by the auto-clean-up of system emails.
  • Links in system mails should no longer be broken (e.g. accept alliance invite).
  • Formatting in Firefox is much improved.
  • Daily reward on herald now shows correct time when the next one can be claimed.

Love 90% of the updates, looking really good (especially loving the medals! I've been playing with designs all morning) but I am having a bit of trouble when searching players on the global rankings - the person I'm looking for is no long highlighted. Could we get that back please? It makes life a lot easier.

I agree with everything written here, specifically what he said on the choice of fonts and colors. The previous version looked way more "medieval", more consistent with the game itself.

Also, don't know if it's just me, but the pages became sooo much slower to scroll, particularly with chrome but also with firefox - in general, they are more "laggy"... It's like they got much heavier than before, something I can't explain really. It's making me take ages to do everything.

Jarko

PS: thumbs up for the new functions instead!

+1 for JimJams and Jarko!

Another thing, could be possible that winners from previous tournaments would be awarded with medals? That would be a nice and easy way to start getting familiarised with them. And they would have a real meaning!

 Cheers,

If this is done, I suggest that any officially-awarded medals carry (say) a small 'crown' indication, positioned (say) hanging off the top of the badge. This addition would not be available to the medal designer.

Greets!
I rarely write here but there is issue that is really bothering me.
Size of the map

Could it be possible to make the map bigger in the future updates instead of making it smaller by adding more layers to the sides. For example the map settings could be pop up, and the menus on top of map seem bit redundant. Also big text saying "world map" is maybe educational if you are starting the game first time, but not so useful in hour or two.

Map is the place where everything happens in the game after all?
Id also like to see the advanced resources with out clicking on it and covering the search?

So more usability and less styling would be my wish

Search is great ad though :)

Thex

Do you guys want bug reports for the new stuff here, or as petitions?

(Just found my first one: the "select all" button in mail is sometimes not selecting anything.  And unchecking it never deselects messages.  Chrome 19, Windows).

Either way is fine. Game breaking stuff should go into petitions first though. Little things are just fine posted here. As long as you are letting us know somehow. Thanks!

which is needed for versions <= 14; but isn't needed in 15 (Aurora)

But not sure why in Aurora
<div class="content">
renders off left or why
<div class="largeBorder">
breaks the top bounds and looses its image border.

Can't seem to see much going on that would do this.

Since this update I haven't been able to use my keyboards arrow key's to navigate on the map like I used to.

The map also sometimes needs a refresh to show properly (sometimes there is no background colour on the tiles or encampments are not displayed).

Edit:
Browser: Opera

There are some nice additions to this new UI and I do like the look of the page. I like the fact that there is clearly room for development which means you guys are planning more additions which I will look forward to.

In our alliance we have been discussing having a more dynamic system of ranking and the option of medals really excited us. Looking at the medals - they look great, it's brilliant how customizable they are and lots of ideas came off the back of this. The issue we have in our alliance is the sheer cost in prestige of these medals. We feel that the cost is too high for what we had planned and we are unlikely to use them due to this, which is a real shame.

I understand that you may not want medals to be 'ten a penny' and maybe we will need to rethink our medal assignment system that we had planned. Still, I do think at the current time that the cost of the medals is so prohibitive that we will not be using them.

Thanks nonetheless for all the nice touches and the like and the continued hard work you guys put into the game,

Jasche (Consul - Invictus)

Just wondering if this is right, when my vans are moving they are either yellow or green in colour, but whilst harvesting they are blue.  At one point earlier I had 3 vans out and all differnet colours. Confused

Hi Jasche,
There is a thread in the suggestions forum here:  http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/new-alliance-medals-suggestions-and-observations_topic3688.html" rel="nofollow - http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/new-alliance-medals-suggestions-and-observations_topic3688.html  where a few of us were discussing just that. Please feel free to look at our suggestions and add your own.

The colour of your vans depends on what they are doing.

--Your vans that are traveling out to harvest or back from harvesting are dark yellow (as are neutral players' vans)
--Your vans traveling on trade missions are green (as are the vans of alliance/confed players)
--Your vans that are stationary and harvesting are blue

The only colours your vans cannot be are red (for war) or light yellow (for NAP).

Personally, I'd rather that all my vans were blue all the time.  But I'm sure that the devs have some hidden Plan at work.

+1, I'm certain that this is a bug in the April release.

It does not really improve pogo bumping if you can't tell which moving vans are your own vans.Unhappy

You removed the simple point from the authorized characters in names.

This is very bad, the point is a common character and there are a zillion cities using that name, removing it you broke our ability to have a standard name template like many of us have:

#. name

Can you please give the damn point back to us ?????????

PS
Sometimes it looks like you like to annoy your players....
Surely it is not the case, but, ehi, it looks this way...

PPS
Now my last city is named: ''ò'è'é'_'_-?-'çò-_-_'''
Surely a great name, and all authorized characters

Just a few thoughts of the new UI. At normal zoom level, if I have 2 constructions and 2 researches in queue, the second research is partially cropped at the bottom.

Also, I make extensive use of the notification window, so the new tabbed and shrunk version feels cramped to me.

One last point, regarding the whole interface versus screen size: about one third of the screen is unused on the right. I can unlock the chat window, drag it there and resize it to make use of that space, but personally, I'd rather put the notification window there, and also, I have to do the manipulation every time I log in or refresh the Illyriad page.

To end on a positive note though, I enjoy the graphical feel of the new UI. Smile

I've just noticed today that the game saves the Global Chat window size and position when I allow my browser to connect to "cloudfront.net". Tongue

However, even if I turn off the friend list system, the friend list window doesn't seem to disappear and can't be closed either. I'd happily put my notification window there instead. Wink
